The LCS Summer AI Institute — The Skills That Matter is a professional development experience for teachers and school leaders looking to explore the role of artificial intelligence in education. Be part of this collaborative exchange of ideas and solutions, where participants will learn from one another and discover effective ways to integrate AI into the learning process. Expect to walk away with fresh strategies, broadened perspectives, and meaningful ways to embed the skills that matter into your educational community.

Who Should Attend

We invite schools to send a team (2–5 teachers and 1–3 school leaders), that can learn collectively and turn new knowledge into meaningful action. Set within a picturesque natural environment, the conference offers the space to step back, think creatively, and engage in the kind of deep, human-centered discussions that make AI integration purposeful and lasting

The Skills That Matter

What are the durable, transferable skills that both meet this AI moment and will outlast it? A cornerstone of this year’s AI Institute is Eric Hudson’s leadership in exploring and identifying the skills students need to succeed in a rapidly changing world:

  • Extending the Mind
  • Information Literacy
  • Playfulness
  • Meaning Making
  • Ethical Decision-Making
These skills empower students to think critically about generative AI, to explore it with curiosity and purpose, and to use it responsibly. Most importantly, developing these skills allow us to address generative AI while also looking beyond it to a world where our students will face constant adjustment to emerging technologies. We’ll explore the research that underlies each of these skills, look at practical classroom applications of them, and reflect on what might need to change in our own work to place them at the center of learning experiences.

What to Expect

  • Keynote Presentation, Eric Hudson The Skills that Matter
  • Micro-Talks Engage in concise, thought-provoking presentations that highlight emerging AI practices, classroom innovations, and in-progress work from fellow educators.
