An Exciting Week in LCS Athletics: Gold Medal Wins, Grit, and Great Sportsmanship

It’s been an action-packed week for LCS Athletics, filled with thrilling victories, hard-fought battles, and inspiring displays of teamwork and perseverance.

The week kicked off with an unforgettable gold medal win from our 1st Girls Field Hockey team, who defeated their opponent 1–0 in a heart-stopping overtime finish. With just 13 seconds left on the clock, Suri sealed the victory with a spectacular game-winning goal. The team’s strong defensive play and outstanding goaltending by London helped secure the championship title and cap off an incredible season. Congratulations to the team on their well-deserved gold medal and a truly competitive season!

Our 2nd Girls Field Hockey team also made LCS proud with a strong showing in the semifinals, where they faced the top-ranked team from the west division. Despite a 2–0 loss, the team’s grit and determination stood out, earning them a spot in the top four of their 10-team league—an impressive accomplishment and a testament to their growth this season.

Meanwhile, the 1st Boys Volleyball team kept the momentum going with a 3–1 win over Bayview Glen at home. Each set was decided by fewer than five points, showcasing the team’s focus and resilience. This victory earned them a place in the Final Four Tournament at Country Day School on Friday.

In a dramatic semifinal matchup, the 2nd Boys Soccer team staged an incredible comeback against Albert College, overcoming a 2–0 deficit to win 3–2 and advance to the finals at Rosseau Lake College on Friday. Their perseverance and teamwork shone through in this thrilling match.

The 1st Boys Soccer team wrapped up their season after a challenging semifinal against TCS, finishing with a 3–0 loss. Despite the result, the team showed tremendous effort and continuous improvement throughout the season—a strong foundation to build on for the future.

In 1st Girls Basketball, the team delivered one of their most competitive games of the season, narrowly falling 30–29 in the quarterfinals at Ridley College. With impressive three-point shooting from Fiona, dynamic play from Elise and Faith, and strong defensive work by Lara, the team has much to celebrate from a season of growth and determination.

The Boys Flag Football team also impressed with their effort against an undefeated, older HSC team. Masa “Touchdown” Taniguchi led the way once again with multiple touchdowns, while Will Ludholm added a touchdown and an interception. The team’s energy and sportsmanship were clear highlights of the season.
Looking ahead, the 2nd Boys Volleyball team will compete in the Final Four tournament at Pickering College, while Girls Flag Football will battle for a top spot at De La Salle on Friday.

To wrap up the fall season, all competitive athletes can look forward to a special visit next Tuesday from a Tokyo 2020 Olympian, who will be speaking to teams after school in the theatre—a fitting way to celebrate a season defined by perseverance, teamwork, and LCS spirit.
