Congratulations to our 2020/21 Co-Head Students

LCS has the aspirational goal of becoming a school known and recognized for our commitment to student voice. Our vision, “to inspire teenagers to become leaders who care, connect and contribute,” drives our strategy. One of the ways we strive to empower our students is through participation in elected leadership roles.

The traditional process of leadership was in full force these past two weeks through LWL-Remotely as our Grade 11 students met to think about their upcoming roles as senior leaders of Lakefield's graduating class next year. It is an exciting time and for some, it is a milestone that they have been looking forward to. One of the first steps in the overall process is to elect our new Co-Head Students.

The election to select the Co-Head Students for the 2020/21 year was held this week.

Congratulations to Catherine Kim and Jack Freeman who were elected by their peers and staff in the vote that took place on Tuesday morning.

Catherine gets her joy from performing and creating. Being a part of productions such as Damn Yankees, Mamma Mia!, CHICAGO: High School Edition, along with numerous dance showcases have helped her grow as an artist and learn to take direction and assume leadership roles. “Lakefield has given me so much that I feel compelled to give back. I want to be remembered as the student who gave her all in everything she did, and gave her heart to the community she calls home.”

Jack shared his personal belief that we should always keep an open mind and take risks even if they are out of our comfort zone. This mindset has been further enhanced and encouraged during his time at The Grove where some of his best memories are when he took risks. “Throughout my time at Lakefield I have had my fair share of ups and downs. Sometimes these downs have been very stressful and overwhelming, but through them I have built more resilience by keeping a positive mindset and never giving up.”

We extend our congratulations, also, to each of the nominated candidates who shared their perspectives of leadership with the school in Monday’s Chapel. Lily Bowman, Sydney Rankin, Jeewoo Lee and Gavin Plunkett are to be commended for their service to the school.

We look forward to the leadership by the Class of 2021 next year!
