Implementing Boarding Student Feedback and Safety Updates

Based on important student feedback as well as ensuring healthy habits and wellness in the Dining Hall, important changes are being made for boarding students in the food schedule. A rotating breakfast and dinner schedule will be implemented as of tonight based on residential houses. This provides students with more opportunities and more time to eat. There will be one line for hot food; during breakfast and dinner, students may only enter this line during their assigned time. There is one line for grab-and-go meals which is available to students at any time during food service. There will also be longer dining times. Students who choose to stay in the dining hall must sit at their house table.

We know the importance of a healthy breakfast and we strongly encourage students eat breakfast to prepare for an active day. At breakfast, there will be a quick grab line open from 8:00-8:20 a.m. When it is safe to do so, we will return to a mandatory breakfast check-in.

In addition, we recognize the challenge this year for students to be able to socialize among their peers and between houses. Hadden Hall will now be open after study where three houses will be able to socialize each evening, with masking and distancing protocols still in effect. House cohorts will also not apply in the school block. After October 27, the dance studio will also be open after study and with permission and direct supervision of their residential staff, houses may sign out the gym. These spaces are being made available for safe use and to help students feel connected with their peers.

Student feedback and conversation is invaluable to having a healthy, caring community. Our students have consistently shown their resilience and grit during an unprecedented school year and we will continue to work together to create an environment where students feel at home.
