Welcoming a Special Guest to Campus: H.E. Alfredo Martínez Serrano

Our community was delighted to welcome H.E. Alfredo Martínez Serrano, Ambassador of Spain to Canada, to The Grove on January 31, 2022. His Excellency’s visit to LCS began with a lunch meeting with Head of School and Foundation, Anne-Marie Kee and Board Chair, Hugh Macdonnell '85, P '18. The Ambassador was then greeted by our students before they led him on a tour of the classroom block, making stops to see our music, art, dance, science, and theatre classes. After touring the indoor spaces where our students learn, H.E. ventured outdoors to see our expansive natural campus and speak with Ms. Greenshields (Assistant Head: Sustainability) and Mr. Hart (Manager, Outdoors Every Day) about sustainability and farming. The tour culminated with a short performance by our string ensemble in A.W. Mackenzie Chapel.

LCS students and staff were grateful for the opportunity to speak with the Ambassador and were enthralled by his recounts of King Felipe VI of Spain’s time at Lakefield (The King attended LCS in 1985).

“It was an honour to introduce the Ambassador to our Spanish speaking students and to deepen our connections so we can collaborate in the future.” - Ms. Kee

Bienvenidos a Sr. Martinez Serrano! I spent a year in Spain on exchange the same year as HRH Felipe de Borbon was at LCS. I always joked that he and I were exchange partners. I am thrilled that LCS is forging bonds with Spain - such a rich culture and history!
