A Season of CISAA Champions | Athletics Action

Although the spring term commenced slowly, it quickly hastened and concluded with some incredible achievements.

Congratulations to our Girls’ 1st Soccer team, Junior Girls' Soccer team, and 1st Girls' Rugby team, all of whom competed in CISAA championships this spring! This is an incredible accomplishment and we are proud of our athletes for pushing themselves to perform their best and represent LCS in the most positive way possible.

Junior Girls’ Soccer Team
“Our Junior Girls’ Soccer team had an undefeated season with a total of 32 goals for and seven goals against in only four games! From the first practice, it was clear they were a very special team. They brought amazing energy day in and day out, supported each other throughout the season, and were dedicated to improving their soccer skills right from the start. They battled against Toronto French School in the championship game which ended in a 9-2 result. Congratulations, Junior Girls, on a wonderful season and a well deserved CISAA Championship!” - Ms. Confesor

1st Girls’ Rugby Team
“Our 1st Girl's rugby team has been prided on their dedication and commitment to reaching their goals. In seasons past, these goals were usually to learn a new sport, have fun and grow as an athlete and team player. Our success had previously come few and far between. In our first tournament, we saw ourselves in a 0-3 tournament loss, knowing that there was growth on the horizon, with two more tournaments left before finals.

This team did not accept their fate from previous years, this team was different. They had a natural grit about them, determined to persevere, and asked questions to learn the sport better, ultimately being relentless on the pitch. For the remainder of the year, the team went undefeated, winning six straight games and feeling confident going into our finals. All games were great team efforts, with all players getting an opportunity to play and grow the game. Starting the season with 22 players, five of whom had experience playing rugby, turned into a transformative experience for the entire coaching staff and players.

In our final tournament, we played against the hardest team in our first game. The girls battled through the entire game. The team came up with a narrow victory of 10-0, getting two tries from our captain, Grace ’22. Our second and semi-final match was another well-fought game, with another victory (20-5). At this point, the team started to feel the bumps and bruises. Two head injuries early on, and a couple of twisted ankles, meant that we had to dig deep in our final match. We competed against Holy Trinity in the final match, taping ankles, and seeing the grit and sheer determination in every player's face, the girls left everything on the pitch, coming up with a 15-0 victory!

This team definitely proved themselves this year and showed that an underdog team has a chance to win in any sport, as long as they put in the work!” - Ms. Looije

1st Girls’ Soccer
On May 28, our 1st girls’ soccer team played against Crestwood Preparatory School and halfway through the game, they were down 0 to 2 points. Remarkably, they were able to regroup, refocus, and adapt to the challenge. The team came out strong for the second half of the game and swiftly tied up the score with goals made by Kate ’22 and Harper ’22. The energy was high and Kate was able to hit the net to bring the score up to 3-2 LCS. The team played strong defensively and was able to shut down any further goals. Kudos to Liv ’22 who was our Goalie!
