Sarah Lewis (Peterborough Poet Laureate): Inspiring the Next Generation of Poets

Sarah Lewis, Peterborough’s Poet Laureate, has been instrumental in helping our students learn about the art of poetry. Sarah offered our students two workshops, which have covered a wide range of topics, from brainstorming and generating ideas for poems, to performing and reciting them at a poetry slam. Sarah's expertise and passion for poetry have made her a valuable resource for our students. Sarah has a wealth of experience in the poetry world, having been a poet for many years and having published several books of poetry. Our students are grateful to learn from Sarah and glean insights from her guidance, which is grounded in a deep understanding of the art form.

A dynamic teacher, Sarah’s workshops were interactive and engaging, encouraging students to participate and learn through hands-on experiences. This helped students gain a deeper appreciation of poetry and develop their creative abilities.

The workshops also provided a safe and supportive environment where students could share their work and receive constructive feedback from their peers and from Sarah. This exposure to other poets and the wider poetry community is an important aspect of the learning experience and can inspire and motivate students to continue exploring and developing their own poetry skills.

We are excited for her to join us again this evening (Friday, February 3) at the 4th Annual Seb Jones '13 Memorial Poetry Slam, and look forward to continued collaboration with her in the future.
