From Melting to Masterpiece: An Encaustic Workshop with Susan Fisher Thomas

By: Ms. Morencie

On Wednesday, January 22 and Wednesday, February 1, students in our Drawing and Painting club had the pleasure of hosting Susan Fisher Thomas, an expert encaustic artist and educator. During her visits, Susan shared her extensive knowledge of the encaustic art form with our eager students.

The club was keen to learn about the many unique steps involved with encaustics, which included melting the pigment and medium together on a hot plate, brushing on the media to a canvas, blending colours, fusing layers, and adding textural elements.

To bring the lesson to life, Susan invited the students to create their own mini encaustic artwork. The students rose to the challenge, using the techniques they learned to create their own unique masterpieces. The sessions were a huge success, and the students left feeling inspired and excited about their newfound skills.

Thank you, Susan, for sharing your time and expertise with our students!
