Capturing Moments: LCS Photo Contest Celebrates the Power of Photography

We are pleased to announce the successful conclusion of our Grade 11 photo contest. This initiative, which aimed to inspire our students to explore their artistic side and engage with the world around them, showcases the incredible talent and creativity within our school community!

The purpose of the LCS photo contest was four-fold:

Space and Place
It aimed to inspire our students to capture and convey a sense of place, space, and personal connection through their images. The photographs allowed viewers to immerse themselves in the depicted environments and experience the rich cultures and diverse environments as the photographers did.

Ignite a Passion for Photography
Ms. Gullick-Scott encouraged our students to embrace the art form, using their lenses as a tool for self-expression and storytelling.

Foster a Love for the Outdoors
Through their photographs, students showcased their appreciation for the natural world and their willingness to venture beyond their comfort zones to discover new horizons.

Cultural Understanding
Lastly, the contest aimed to promote cultural understanding and personal exploration of self and privilege. The photographs captured moments that encouraged viewers to reflect on their own experiences, identities, and the diverse perspectives that exist in our community and beyond.

The LCS photo contest was a progressive journey, with each month highlighting a unique theme:
  • In January, participants submitted photographs under the theme of "Home for the Holidays," capturing the warmth and joy of the festive season;
  • In February, the focus shifted to "Community/Connections/Citizenship," highlighting the importance of human connections and the power of unity;
  • March brought forth the theme of "Joy," encompassing acceptance, humility, humour, perspective, compassion, forgiveness, gratitude, and generosity;
  • Finally, in April, participants explored "Global Adventure or Nature," providing glimpses of breathtaking landscapes and inspiring experiences from around the world.
The entries received were exceptional, showcasing the immense talent and creativity of our student body. After careful consideration, we announced the winners of the LCS photo contest this week!

Congratulations to Willow ’24, Mackenzie ’24, and Robin ’24 for their outstanding contributions! Their photographs captured the essence of each theme with artistry and emotional depth, resonating with both the judging panel and the wider audience.

Thank you to all of our participants who shared their vision and perspectives through their photographs!
