Embracing Tradition and Leadership at 2023/24 Opening Grad Chapel

On Wednesday evening, the Class of 2024 gathered for a poignant and cherished tradition that marks the start of their academic journey for the 2023/24 school year: Opening Grad Chapel.

This event, steeped in history, holds a special place in the hearts of our Grade 12 students. It provides them with a unique opportunity to come together in the A.W. Mackenzie Chapel, fostering connections amongst themselves and setting their intentions for the upcoming year.

The walls of the Chapel resonated with joyous harmonies as our students joined in song. Head of School, Ms. Kee addressed the gathering, illuminating the joys and responsibilities that accompany leadership within our school community.

The evening culminated in a time-honoured tradition—the candlelight ceremony. The gentle glow of these flames symbolizes the mantle of leadership, passed down from one Grad Class to the next. For our Grads, both new and returning, this experience held deep meaning. It offered them a final opportunity to forge connections as a cohesive grade before they extended a warm welcome to new students on campus the following day.

Throughout the week, our Grads had ample time to reconnect with each other and reacquaint themselves with campus life. From the invigorating swim tests at the waterfront to shared meals in the Dining Hall, and settling into their residences to extending warm greetings to new and returning students at The Grove, a sense of community prevailed.

Anticipation runs high as we look forward to the leadership and guidance that the Class of 2024 will bring to our school community this year. Their influence will undoubtedly shape and inspire their younger peers on their own journeys of growth and self-discovery.
