A Day of Exploration: October Intersession 2023

This week, our students embraced a day of immersive learning during the second intersession of the year, a unique and cherished tradition in our academic calendar. Intersession days, occurring approximately eight times annually, provide a break from the regular academic routine. On these days, the structured classroom setting gives way to a diverse array of interdisciplinary and hands-on experiences that reach far beyond traditional learning boundaries.

A Day of Enrichment

For our Grade 9 students, the day began with engaging workshops focussed on exploring Character Strengths. These workshops not only enhanced their self-awareness but also encouraged them to harness their unique qualities for personal growth. They also experienced “Shakespeare in an Hour”!

Vital Conversations and Creative Endeavors

Meanwhile, our Grade 10 students delved into vital conversations about consent, engaging in discussions that promote understanding and respect. They also put their creativity to the test in planning for the upcoming Lakefield Santa Claus Parade. Adding a touch of natural beauty to our campus, Grade 10s contributed to our environment by planting vibrant perennials, leaving a lasting mark that enhances our surroundings.

Embodying the Spirit of Giving

In the spirit of giving back, our Grade 11 students attended an inspiring presentation titled "Showing Up Wholeheartedly" by Peter Katz. This motivational talk not only sparked their enthusiasm but also encouraged them to reflect on the power of wholehearted living. Additionally, they dedicated their time to citizenship workshops, learning about the importance of community engagement and social responsibility.

University Exploration for Seniors

Lastly, our Grade 12 students embarked on a valuable journey, travelling in groups to tour various Ontario universities. These visits provided them with firsthand insights into their prospective higher education institutions, assisting them in making well-informed decisions about their future academic pursuits.

A Day of Growth and Discovery

As the day concluded, the school buzzed with excitement and newfound knowledge. October’s intersession day was not just a break from the routine but a chance for our students to explore, learn, and grow in unconventional yet enriching ways. Each experience, whether delving into meaningful conversations, planting the seeds of creativity, or exploring future academic paths, left an indelible mark. Intersession days continue to be a testament to our commitment to providing holistic education, nurturing not just academic minds but also fostering well-rounded individuals ready to embrace the challenges in and beyond the classroom.
