Congratulations to Our 2023/24 Student Grade Representatives

Inspiring Young Leaders
At LCS, we have a vision to “inspire teenagers to be leaders who care, connect and contribute”. We know that teenagers who develop strong leadership skills are more confident, more willing to take measured risks, and feel a greater sense of responsibility to the people and places around them. For this reason, we intentionally design opportunities for our students to be involved in decision-making processes and programming that will have a direct impact on them and their peers.

One of the ways we strive to empower our students is through participation in elected leadership roles such as the Co-Head Student and Grade Representative roles. To be considered for a Grade Representative (Grade Rep) position at any Grade level, students must live the LCS mission, uphold our community values, attend spirit events, be involved in the Duke of Edinburgh program, and be involved in at least one of the clubs within the LCS Values Council.

To be considered for a Grade Representative position, students must be able to:
  • Live the LCS Mission and help to uphold our seven community values
  • Be involved in the Duke of Edinburgh Award program
  • Attend all school day events and a large number of spirit events (after hours)
  • Be involved with Lakefield Environmental Action Force (LEAF) - Earth Day preparations - and Safe Spaces clubs
Responsibilities of Grade Representatives include:
  • Augmenting the Grade Rep profile within their own grade so that they are recognized as an approachable peer and resource for other students
  • Serving on the “Food Services” committee
  • Being a part of the standards process
  • Serving as a group that can work with the Leadership Team of LCS and staff regarding ideas, issues, strategy for community, or concerns
  • Supporting the Chronicle (yearbook) team
  • Hosting a term “Focus Event” (e.g. Christmas Party for the Grade 11s)
  • Running a Minor Spirit Event
  • Defining their unique goals for the year, implementing a plan, and following through on their own initiatives as defined by their goals/dreams.
  • Assisting with conferences or other events being hosted by LCS
  • Attending at least one leadership retreat in the fall and one in the late winter
Before guiding their peers, Grade Rep candidates must show that they can lead by example as model citizens within our community. Through meeting these criteria, students learn that in order to be a leader, you must fully understand both what you expect of your electors and what they expect in return—in this case, enthusiasm, approachability, guidance, kindness, and support.

Congratulations to our 2023/24 Grade Representatives:
  • Grade 9: Jorja Layland, Susie Wang, Zach Coates, Leo Weir, Carla Kaefer, and Gwen Darby
  • Grade 10: Rupert Creasy, Myers Mbonda, Lora Ross, Audrey Lett, Daniel Li, and Jenna Quinn
  • Grade 11: Aman Gupta, Hannah El-Baradie, Louisa Dalglish, Jero Santoyo, Audrey Reeds, and Graeme Armstrong
We look forward to seeing what our students have in store for LCS this school year!
