Building Resilience and Community: Grade 10 Outdoor Education Trip to Algonquin Park
From October 23 to 25, our Grade 10 Outdoor Education students embarked on a late-season camping adventure to Mew Lake in Algonquin Park, where they embraced the challenges and rewards of learning outdoors.
Throughout the three-day trip, students gained hands-on experience setting up cold-weather campsites, preparing and sharing meals together, and strengthening their sense of community in the great outdoors. The group took part in a 7 km hike, where they practiced lightweight hiking and navigation skills, and a 4 km paddle and portage into Provoking Lake to refine their canoe tripping techniques.
While chilly fall temperatures tested their preparation and resilience, students rose to the occasion, demonstrating confidence, teamwork, and adaptability in every activity. These experiences not only deepened their connection to nature but also prepared them for future adventures.
Supported by the Outdoor Education team and dedicated faculty members, this trip exemplified the LCS spirit of exploration, perseverance, and learning through experience—hallmarks of an education that extends far beyond the classroom.
