1st Boys’ Hockey
Coaches: AJ Johnston and Travis Turner
The 1st Boys Hockey team played rival TCS on Saturday, looking for their first regular season win. With an enthusiastic crowd, the home team went down 2-0 in the first period. The boys regrouped and came back by scoring three goals in the second period starting with a great individual play by Zak Schwartz and later by Matt Stevens on a vintage breakaway goal, with assists to Alex Procyk and Schwartz. Stevens notched his second of the game in the same frame. Ryan Da Silva put on a clinic in goal, keeping LCS in the game. TCS tied the game in the third, but the crowd was not to be disappointed as Lakefield called a time out in the final minute and in a last second effort, Stevens threw the puck on net and Allister Avard banked the shot in with 0.6 seconds left on the clock, giving them a 4-3 victory.

On Wednesday December 7th, the Lakefield College School 1st Boys’ Hockey team played and exhibition team against Royal St. George's College at the Lakefield Smith Community Centre. Both teams took the first period to establish themselves, with much of the play in the neutral zone. LCS' Matt Stevens opened the scoring in the first period, and both teams traded goals in the second to bring the teams to a 2-2 tie midway through the second. Alex Sifton then took control of the game for LCS scoring twice in the second, and added three more insurance markers in the third period. Goaltender Ryan DaSilva turned away many RSGC shots, allowing the LCS team to continue to make the most of their offensive chances in the remainder of the game. Lakefield's goal tally was bolstered by Allister Avard, Alex Procyk, and by Stevens' second of the game with 20 seconds left to put the bookends on Lakefield's third straight win on home ice with a final score of 9-3. The team faces Crescent School in an important home game on Wednesday December 14th.

Junior Boys’ Hockey
Coaches: Jim McGowan, Bryan Yantha, and Alan Cundall
On Wednesday, November 30th, the Junior Boys’ Hockey team travelled to Toronto to play their first league game of the season against Royal St. George’s College. Although the boys played a spirited game, they could not keep up with the relentless power play assault of RSGC, losing the first contest of the year 6-0. Jamie Murray and Andrew Avard had strong games for LCS, and defensive veterans Daniel Zahradnik and Alex Lawrie logged plenty of ice time. Trevor Jones saw plenty of action in net.

In their second game of the season on Saturday, December 3rd, LCS battled Trinity College School. Our top line of Nik Nemczek, Jamie Murray and Andy Avard played well, with Nik Nemeczek scoring Lakefield’s first two goals. The LCS defensive corps, led by Scott Garland, played very well in front of goaltender Trevor Jones. Veterans Reed Dennis and Jaron Kaller anchored the second line alongside Keifer Stevenson, and Jaron Kaller scored late in the game to close the gap to 5-3, but late penalty trouble and a late goal into an empty net had The Grove boys on the wrong side of a 6-3 score.

On Wednesday, December 7th, the LCS crew were on the road to play Country Day School. Some early mistakes led to a lopsided score through two periods, but Andrew Avard and Ben McShane scored in the third period to make the score 10-2. Louis Duhamel played well in the Lakefield net in the third period in relief of Trevor Jones. Our team of spirited young men play their first home game of the season against Crestwood Preparatory College on Wednesday, December 14th at Lakefield Arena.

1st Girls’ Hockey
Coaches: Ian Armstrong, Jen Horrigan, and Laura Macklin
On Wednesday, December 7th, 2011, at the Lakefield Arena, Lakefield College School's 1st Girls Hockey Team opened their home regular season with a strong 1 - 1 with league leading St. Mildred' from Oakville.

Caroline Dupuis opened the scoring on a lovely shot from the boards, assisted by captain Abby Allen and Jenna Vander Velden. St. Mildred's responded late in the second period with a power play. For much of the game, LCS played a swarming fore check and defended extremely well, led by senior goaltender Celeste Hutton.

Most impressive was the play of all the young first year players from the local area - Lakefield, Buckhorn, Peterborough, and Bancroft - where eleven players are in either grade eight or nine. A strong future for LCS hockey indeed!

Junior Boys’ Basketball
Coaches: Tia Saley and Mark Sinker
On Saturday, December 3rd, Lakefield College School’s Junior Boys Basketball team travelled to Belleville for their first regular season game against Albert College School. Seamus Smith scored 10 points and Logan Breadner scored 6 points. Oliver Mackenzie played an excellent defensive game and intercepted a number of passes. Congratulations to all team members for an excellent start to the season.

On Wednesday, December 8th, Lakefield College School’s Junior Boys’ Basketball team travelled to Toronto for an exhibition game against Bayview Glen School. The team played a strong defensive game for most of the game. Matthew Kennedy and Oliver Mackenzie were highly effective at blocking shots and intercepting passes. Matthew led the team in scoring with 10 points. Seamus Smith scored 6 points, Oliver Mackenzie scored 4 and Logan Breadner got 2 points. Hunter Knete was highly effective at moving the ball forward and starting offensive plays. The team lost a close game 34-22. The boys are looking forward to their next league game next week in Toronto.

The Junior Girls’ received a well-earned win on Wednesday against LDSS, our local rival, in our first exhibition home game. Thanks to all the LCS students/staff for coming out and supporting our team!
