Grove Society Welcome

By Cara Westcott

Cara Westcott, President of the Grove Society Parent Chapter, welcomed guests to guest speaker presentation in the Chapel on Thursday, October 3. Cara reminded everyone that the Grove Society is the volunteer organization that supports the school by helping to build engagement with parents, alumni and staff. Everyone is a member of the Grove Society.

Special guests included Louise Paoli di Prisco (Admissions), Peter Andras (OE), Heather Avery (Assistant Head: Student Support) and Tom Milburn (Director, University Guidance).

Louise thanked the parents for their continued support in promoting the school and referring students. She invited interested parents to take part in an Ambassador Training Session. If you are interested in finding out more about this opportunity, please email Admissions admissions@lcs.on.ca.

On behalf of the school, Peter Andras thanked the Grove Society for their support in purchasing the tipi, which was installed on campus this week. He shared the process of installing the tipi and the meaning behind each step and symbol. After a smudging ceremony was held by a local First Nations elder this week, students will now be able to use this teaching space through a variety of curriculums. A community-wide event will be planned for the spring to show the benefits of the tipi to the school.

Heather Avery explained the benefits of the new schedule and Grove Time, and answered questions.

Tom Milburn guided parents through the admissions process for university. Planning can never start too soon. Please view his presentation. Further information and resources are available through the Guidance site on the OLC.

The next Grove Society meeting will be the annual Christmas Celebration on Friday, December 6 at 10:00 a.m. in the A.W. Mackenzie Chapel, followed by lunch in Upper Hadden Hall.
