LCS Students Place 2nd in the Provincial Envirothon

Congratulations to Jana Rubel ’22, Caroline Chen ’21, Louise Prindiville-Porto ’22, Shirley Li ’21, and Shenda Fitton ’22 for placing second in the Provincial Envirothon challenge!

Last week, these five members of the LEAF club presented their idea for an urban downtown park that would increase residents’ access to green space while demonstrating nature-based solutions to climate change in a built environment.

"I think one of the reasons why our team was able to create a compelling 10-minute presentation within the 48-hour time frame was our team dynamic. During the various initiatives we organized in the past, we learned a lot about each other and our strengths. This allowed us to collaborate as efficiently as possible and to build on each other's points during the Q&A, resulting in a presentation that convinced the judges." - Jana Rubel '22

The students worked together to create a development plan based on research and case studies that accounted for the existing ecosystem, members of the community, and wildlife in their given scenario.

Their research and presentation skills wowed the judges who determined their second-place finish. Congratulations to our students and to Mr. Arsenault who guided the team and helped them prepare for their presentation.

You can watch a recording of their presentation to learn more about their design ideas.
