Exploring Chemistry with a Splash of Colour

Dr. Melville's Grade 12 AP Chemistry class recently concluded their module with an experiment that not only demonstrated scientific principles but also brought a splash of colour to the classroom.

In their exploration of LeChatelier's principle, our students a "Rainbow" Lab. The concept is simple but fascinating: to create solutions representing each colour of the rainbow and then manipulate chemical systems to observe changes in equilibrium.

The lab began with our students mixing solutions of red, orange, yellow, green, blue, and violet. Then they used these solutions to apply LeChatelier's principle, a fundamental concept in understanding chemical equilibrium.

Through the "Rainbow" Lab, our students not only witnessed the practical application of scientific theories but also experienced the joy of discovery firsthand. As they observed the colourful transformations, they gained a deeper appreciation for the complexities and beauty of chemistry.

Dr. Melville's AP Chemistry class exemplifies the spirit of hands-on, experiential learning that is ingrained in all aspects of the LCS academic experience. This experiment exemplifies the creativity, curiosity, and passion of both our students and educators, underscoring that learning extends beyond knowledge acquisition; it's about embracing the excitement of exploration.
