1st Alpine Ski Racing
Coaches: Peter Andras, Katrina Brennan
The 1st Alpine Ski Racing team had a successful training camp on January 6 and 7 at Horseshoe Valley near Barrie, Ontario. The team worked hard in Giant Slalom (GS) and Slalom (SL) courses on both days. With their Tuesday night training on January 12 at Brimacombe, the team was ready for their first test!
Leaving at the ungodly hour of 5:30 a.m., the team travelled to Collingwood to ski in the first CISAA of the season at Alpine Ski Club. All team did exceptionally well in their divisions. Missing teammate Scott Thompson due to injury, the Level 2A boys Chris Moodie and Carter McKnight were out of the team standings. Chris had an equipment malfunction that needed attention following the first run. He had an unfortunate DNF in the first run but will be ready next week. Carter skied exceptionally well and placed 6th overall! The Level 2A girls finished in 2nd behind their rivals from Hillfield. (Victoria Boisclair 7th, Frederique Roy 10th, Véréna Lefebvre 11th and Betsy MacDonnell 28th). Otto Jonetzki was the only Level 1 boys entry and he placed 8th overall in his first GS race. The Level 1 girls teams did exceptionally well today! The Level 1B team girls team placed 2nd behind BSS (Josie Carr-Harris 2nd, Maria Schmucker 5th, Roxane Piret 6th and Dasha Egudkina was DQ’ed). Finally the Level 1A girls handily won their division with an exceptional team effort! (Maggie Thompson 3rd, Philine Hoyer 4th, Sara Hubble 6th, Juliette Polito 8th and Keely Matsusaki 18th - out of 41 racers!)
The Alpine team travels again next Wednesday to Mansfield. We are always looking for volunteers to come out and help at our races, providing an excellent opportunity for parents to join their kids in the hill. If you are able to volunteer your time to come out and help out on the hill we would love to have you! Please contact the coaches

Masciangelo would score a goal in the 2nd period while Gabe Lalancette was rewarded for his hustle and hard work - finishing with 2 assists. Captain Adrien Mindjimba scored the final two goals of the game after two quick shots from the high slot and would finish with 3 points. Scott Murphy was steady between the pipes and made several key saves during pivotal moments - Final score - Lakefield 4, Adam Scott 2. The team will look to build on this positive momentum as they resume regular season play at St. Andrew's College next Wednesday.
Jr. Boys’ Hockey
Coaches: Ian Armstrong, Jeff Mills
On a bitterly cold afternoon in the warm confines of the Lakefield Arena, Lakefield College School's Jr. Boys’ Hockey team faced off against St. Andrew's College.
In the first half of the first period, the boys in red and green played with zest, intelligence, and savvy, earning scoring chance after scoring chance, defended very well against counter attacks, and demonstrated wonderful discipline. SAC, however, found their legs and scored two goals late in the frame to take a 2 - 0 lead.
In the second period, with the long bench change, LCS' level of play slipped, allowing SAC to score three more, despite the valiant efforts of goaltender and captain, Jack Campbell.
During the second period intermission, the boys re-committed to their game plan which focused on hard work, loyalty, discipline, and responsibility; their goal being to win or tie the third period - and tie the period they did. Mitchell Stedman scored on a terrific play from Brendan Rutherford, made possible through the hard board work by Ethan Daynes.
The team wishes departing defenders, Jeff McCaw and Patrick Hannivan, all the best as they embark on their exchange for the balance of the season.
Jr. Girls’ Basketball
Coaches: John Braeckman, Stephanie Kruzich
The Jr. Girls’ Basketball team had a tough loss to De La Salle College in Toronto on Wednesday with a final score of 29 - 17. Our boys came out strong in the first half and were leading with a score of 11 - 9. But by the end of the second period they were trailing by four. Our boys played well offensively despite being plagued by turnovers and DLS’ fast breaks. By playing the plays they know well, they were able to put a few more points on the board in the third and four quarters. By the end of the game, Niko Wahlberg had put in two three pointers and Matt Lawes and Stuart Gerus both had five points each. As the season moves forward, so does this young team. They face Crestwood Preparatory next Wednesday in Toronto.
