Jr. Boys’ Hockey
Coaches: Ian Armstrong, Jeff Mills
In front of an active and engaged crowd, on a lovely Saturday afternoon, and with a updated roster, the Jr. Boys Hockey team looked forward to their rematch vs. TCS in exhibition hockey.

Goaltender Grant Tucker, due to his hard work in practice, earned the starting assignment in goal, and earned his first LCS win with a 5 - 4 victory.  Grant's performance inspired his teammates, particularly as the team was short handed for almost half of the game. However, the team was able to score three short-handed goals by Brendan Rutherford, Keith Forsythe, and Adam Stainrod.  Even strength goals were scored by Mitchell Stedman and Justin Gallant.

Coach Mills and Armstrong were extremely pleased with how well the team executed their performance goals of puck possession and protection in the offensive zone; working from their cycle by taking pucks to the net and creating scoring chances in the dirty areas.  As well, the improvement by the defensive core - Sebastian Smith, Noah Latimer, James Wootton, and Peter McEnery - has been key to the entire team's improved play of late.

1st Alpine Racing
Coaches: Peter Andras, Katrina Brennan
The 1st Alpine Racing team was on the road again this week. After tuning their skis on Tuesday night the team was ready for the warm, wet conditions on Wednesday. Unfortunately, the only teams that were able to compete together were the Level 1 Girls teams! Both the Level 2 Girls and Boys teams had missing members for various reasons and were not able to compete as a team. Our sole Level 1 Boy Otto Jonetzki had an unfortunate first run leading to a DNF but was able to show what he could do in the second run with a 9th place finish. Carter McKnight raced hard for Level 2 Boys and was able to finish the race in 8th place on the difficult course. Chris Moodie had a brilliant first run and unfortunately, slipped up as many did near the finally of the course. Sole Level 2 Girl, Victoria Boisclair had a similar run and was able to finish the second run but had to climb back up after slipping past a gate near the finish. It was the Level 1 Girls (both A and B teams) that stole the show today! Both teams handily won their divisions. The Level 1 B team swept 1st to 4th place. (Josie Carr-Harris 1st, Keely Matsusaki 2nd, Jill Torsher 3rd, Roxane Piret 4th and Maria Schmucker 9th!) Finally, the Level 1 A Girls clinched an OFSAA birth and will be off to Collingwood to ski in the Ontario High School championships at Blue Mountain at the beginning of March. (Juliette Polito 1st, Oona Goebbels 3rd, Sara Hubble 6th, Philine Hoyer 9th and Maggie Thompson 11th!)

Jr. Boys’ Basketball
Coaches: John Braeckman, Stephanie Kruzich
The Jr. Boys’ Basketball team came played Bayview Glen at home and won the match-up 30-20. They kept a solid 3 point lead through the first three quarters and then managed to sink in another 12 points in the 4th quarter. Despite the large number of fouls for BVG, the boys stayed strong and didn’t let that intimidate them. Big scorers were Stuart Gerus with 9 points, Niko Wahlberg with 9 points, Matt Lawes with 5 points, Bernardo Castillon with 4 points, and Arsh Momi and Alex Forde with 2 points each. The game was live streamed, and can be watched in its entirety online. With their first win, they are looking forward to playing in The Kawartha Classic Tournament this weekend.

1st Boys’ Hockey
Coaches: Clark Davis, Sean Munoz
The LCS 1st Boys' Hockey team took to the ice on Wednesday afternoon looking for their first win of the season against Ridley College at Douro Community Centre.  The boys started fast as Alex Babineau blew by the defence on a tremendous individual effort, roofing it over the goaltender's right shoulder.  He would add an assist in the contest.  Tristan Walsh played a strong game, scoring two goals after being moved to center the newly dubbed "Noise Line" between Justin Gallant (1st goal of the season, 1 assist) and Wil Brawn (2 assists).  Quinn MacMillan also potted his first goal of the season while Mike Hudson buried his fourth goal of the season after some hard work in front of the net - each would finish with two points.  Once again, Scott Murphy flashed some great goaltending, only allowing two goals in the contest.  Final score - Lakefield 6, Ridley College 2.  The boys are hosting Upper Canada College next Wednesday at the Lakefield Arena.

Jr. Boys’ Hockey
Coaches: Ian Armstrong, Jeff Mills
On a school snow day, the loyalty of all the players and parents were clearly demonstrated when all healthy and eligible players showed up to play hosts to Villanova College at the Lakefield Smith Community Centre; a rematch from a 4 - 3 loss in early December.  The boys in red and green - all 10 skaters and two goaltenders - were committed to embracing the opportunity of lots and lots of ice time and to exceed their performance expectations in front of friends and family.  Led by captain Jack Campbell, who likely played his best game of the year, the boys executed the TRAP extremely well, limiting Villanova to very few odd player rushes.

Brendan Rutherford opened the scoring with an exciting bar down goal.  Villanova responded quickly with a goal, but then Jordan Tucker, from the point, on laser-like wrist shot, helped Lakefield regain the lead.  Villanova again tied the game, then took the lead, forcing Lakefield to take some risks in the offensive zone in the third period.  As a result, Tommy Quick made a nifty play to Mason Schweer who tied the game with just a few minutes left on the clock.  Lakefield's defence of Noah Latimer, James Wootton, Peter McEnerey as well as wingers Ethan Daynes and Matthew Neville focused on puck protection and getting pucks in deep, preserving a 3 - 3 tie.
