1st Boys’ Hockey
Coaches: Clark Davis, Sean Munoz
The 1st Boys' Hockey team took to the ice Friday afternoon to finish their home and home series against visiting Hillfield Strathallan College.  Energized by a large crowd at Lakefield-Smith Community Centre, the boys got out to a blistering start - scoring 7 goals in the first period.  Tristan Walsh netted the hat trick, while Gabriel Lalancette, Alex Babineau, Taylor Walsh, Justin Gallant, and Mike Hudson added goals of their own.  Buoyed by a massive lead and a relatively quiet first period, Antoine Rapp replaced Scott Murphy between the pipes and was solid for the remainder of the game.  Final score - LCS 8, HSC 4.  The win clinched LCS a playoff spot.

Lakefield continued their home-stand against visiting Trinity College School on Saturday afternoon - a bigger, stronger opponent than their Friday competitors, LCS played solid, responsible defensive hockey, made very few turnovers, and back-checked on every play.  Backed by a large home crowd, the boys kept it close and brought the crowd to their feet on Taylor Walsh's snap-shot from the high slot at the 6:47 mark of the 1st period - beating the TCS goalie underneath his catching hand.  The boys battled hard and kept it a 2-1 game for just over two periods.  Scott Murphy stood on his head, making numerous pad saves with TCS forwards buzzing around the crease.  Unfortunately, Lakefield could not capitalize on a few missed scoring chances.  Final score - LCS 1, TCS 4.

Jr. Girls’ Volleyball
Coaches: Janice Runza, Lucas Tompkins
The Jr. Girls' Volleyball team had a tough match against Appleby College who was placed one position ahead of LCS in the standings.  The girls knew that if they played to their potential and with confidence that a win was within their grasp and a playoff spot could be secured.

The girls came out strong in the first game and gained a quick lead with some strong serving.  The team was able to continue their momentum and hold the lead, winning the first game by a score of 25-14.  Appleby battled back in the 2nd game and caught LCS a bit on their heels, with AC winning 25-11.

LCS never gave up, got their groove back before the final game by playing some motivating music and team talk, they put their game faces back on and confidence was restored.  LCS won the final game with a score of 25-22 securing a spot in the playoffs next Wednesday against Havergal College.

The coaches are incredibly proud of how the team played today and the way they maintained their focus and composure.  Although HC will be a tough opponent, the girls have improved ten-fold since we played them earlier in the season and are looking forward to showing HC a different, tougher, highly skilled 'new' LCS team.  Well done girls!
