1st Alpine Racing
Coaches: Peter Andras, Katrina Brennan
Congratulations to the Level 1 Girls Alpine team (Maggie Thompson, Juliette Polito, Sara Hubble, Oona Goebbels and Philine Hoyer) on a spectacular performance at OFSAA this week! The girls have worked hard all season, dedicated to their practices and training. The team captured the Bronze Medal in the Giant Slalom race, and came 7th in the Slalom race on Monday. Way to go girls! Coach Andras and Coach Katrina are so proud of you!
1st Nordic Racing
Coaches: Todd Harris, Sara Thompson
Last Wednesday, the LCS Nordic team braved the winter weather to travel to Collingwood for OFSAA 2016. After working incredibly hard all season, 12 skiers qualified for the competition, including many first year skiers! Skiers included: Hanna Su, Tsubasa Yamawaki, Olivia Gao, Isabella Chen, Sarah Chung, Sarah Shi, Shunya Tsunami, Kyle Lee, Jack Zhang, James Fang, Chris Gill and Cameron Maltman.
Even after a very challenging warm-up day, with some of the worst skiing conditions the team had seen, the team did not complain. They had ice pellets hitting and numbing their faces as they raced up and down the huge hills, but they stayed motivated and eager to compete. Thursday was the individual races, and Friday was the relays. All racers pushed themselves to their limits, performing exceptionally well considering the tough conditions and terrain. LCS Nordic had a fantastic season, and they are already talking about starting it all again next year! Great job team!
1st Boys’ Hockey
Coaches: Clark Davis, Sean Munoz
The 1st Boys' Hockey team travelled to Upper Canada College on Wednesday afternoon to begin their playoff hunt. Playing on the Olympic-size ice surface at the Wilder Arena, the boys went down 2 - 0 early after surrendering some odd-man rushes and missing some defensive assignments. It wasn't until Alex Babineau buried a centreing pass from Adrien Mindjimba late in the 1st that the boys began to claw back into it, making it 2 - 1. The boys adjusted their fore-check and put a ton of pressure on the UCC defence in the 2nd and 3rd frames. Finally, Quinn MacMillan was rewarded for his line's solid effort in front of the net, making the game 3 - 2 in the dying minutes. Then, with 1:30 left on the clock, MacMillan buried yet another scramble in front of the net - tying the game at 3 - 3 and sending it to overtime.
Scott Murphy was once again stellar in goal - shutting the door on several UCC chances late in the 3rd period and in overtime. Unfortunately, after several missed scoring chances, LCS gave up another odd-man rush that resulted in the winning goal early in the overtime period. Final score - UCC 4, Lakefield 3.
Despite the loss, the coaches are incredibly proud of the effort put forth by the boys. They showed tremendous fortitude and character all season long and are very much looking forward to next year with a large returning roster. The coaches would also like to recognize and thank Adrien Mindjimba, Alex Babineau, and Scott Murphy for all of their efforts as leaders this year, and would like to wish them the very best as they conclude their time at LCS.
