The easiest answer is a lot of things and mostly a friendly place to build and be creative.
At LCS Monday Makerspace, students try out 3D printing, sewing machines and knitting. In the new year, our makerspace group will regularly have use of our new laser cutter. With a first lesson and project on the available equipment complete, students are able to design and propose their own projects. The cyclic design process, sharing ideas and problem solving happen naturally in this space each week. Creativity is practiced and explored.
Most recently, students have been designing game pieces, sewing pajamas and tote bags, knitting scarves and ornaments, 3D printing key fobs and holiday decor.
Makerspaces are popping up around the world. Our Makerspace started with a 3D printer from the Grove Society three years ago. Student interest in sewing and textiles grew the program. The addition of sewing machines and the laser cutter have kept the possibilities growing for this creative space.
