Opening Staff Chapel in The Grove

On Monday, August 31 our faculty and staff gathered together as a community to open the new school year with our annual staff chapel service. Embracing our “Outdoors Every Day” value, chapel was held under the shade of The Grove with staff maintaining a safe distance from one another on picnic blankets and chairs. Others joined remotely via a live stream to enjoy the music and community with each other. As Lorraine Brown, Director of Spiritual Wellness and Diversity, commented in her opening remarks, “Although the pandemic has brought so many challenges, it is bringing this extraordinary gift for us to gather in one of the oldest places on campus.”

This annual tradition was also a time to acknowledge the challenges faced through this unprecedented year. The service reflected our hope for the new school year that, while it will look different, it will still hold the true Lakefield experience for all to enjoy. Anne-Marie Kee, Head of School and Foundation, remarked “As we open this new school year, I remind us that we are so much more than a school. We are a community that instills goodness into the hearts and minds and souls in and out of the classroom. We are all called to teach goodness and to live a good life. This is our history and the bar is set high for us.”

As students begin to return to The Grove, this place will hold an even more special connection through community gatherings, Chapel and gratitude for a safe campus to call home.

“Let us think tonight of the courage of our students who are leaving behind their own comforts to be here with us. Our students are courageous. Let us ensure a new sense of belonging here for them.” - Anne-Marie Kee, Head of School and Foundation
