Spreading Holiday Cheer Throughout the Community | Student-Led Community Initiatives

During our recent Chapel programs, Head of School Anne-Marie Kee has spoken about the importance of community, in particular, the importance of building and maintaining connections with those around us. Our students have taken her messages to heart and have established community service projects designed with our local community members’ needs in mind.

This week, a group of students led by Krista ’23 and Abby ’23 designed and wrote Christmas cards for local residents living at Extendicare Lakefield (a local long-term care home for seniors). To ensure all residents feel recognized and cared for, students are writing cards for each and every resident to be delivered in time for Christmas.

In the coming weeks, they will also wrap 200 gifts for all residents of Lakefield Extendicare and a subsidized senior's home in Peterborough that were generously donated by the Weinbrecht family who owns the Canadian Tire located on Chemong Road in Peterborough. Una Weinbrecht (mother of Krista '23) visited students during their card decorating session to see their Christmas creations come to life. Our students’ desire to spread holiday cheer was evident as they carefully deliberated about what paper to use and what messages to inscribe in the cards. We’re sure our local residents will enjoy the thoughtful gestures made by both our students and the Weinbrecht family.
