Preparing to ReLaunch Live Performances

The LCS Dance Company is excited to “ReLaunch” live performances with an incredible show in front of a live audience! Our dedicated team of dancers and crew members have been working tirelessly over the past two months to prepare for the first live dance performance held at LCS in over 19 months. Earlier in 2021, students held a performing arts showcase for their peers and LCS faculty and staff. However, on November 26, LCS families will join them in the Bryan Jones Theatre to watch them perform in real-time.

We spoke to Mr. Bemrose to learn more about this exciting production.

What are students currently doing to prepare for ReLaunch?

Mr. Bemrose: Over 60 students in both the Dance Company co-curricular team and co-curricular dance classes have been working hard since September to create this amazing spectacle!
Most of the dances are choreographed by students and the leadership they have demonstrated has been incredible. There are so many different genres represented: Jazz, Tap, Hip Hop, Circus Arts, Bollywood, Acro, Lyrical, K-Pop, Musical Theatre, Contemporary, and Traditional Chinese dance. Our dance team captains, Kate ’22, Kelly ’22, and Pia ’22, along with Dance Seniors-in-Charge (SICs), Ania ’22, Hana ’22, and Caroline ’22 have set a great example for our younger dancers by working hard and being inclusive. Behind the scenes, our dedicated tech students, Sophie ’22 and Anna ’24 have spent many hours learning our brand new lighting system (check out our new moving lights!) as well as perfecting the art of lighting and sound design.

How do students feel about performing for a live audience after such a long break?

Mr. Bemrose: They are thrilled to be performing live again! Last year with our "Now. Here. This." Performing Arts Showcase, we were able to perform live, but to a much smaller audience. As a result, we ended up filming a lot of material to share online. While it was a great "pivot" that produced fantastic pieces, being able to dance for a full audience again this year has all of our performers very excited.

What can audience members expect?

Mr. Bemrose: The audience can expect a fun and fast-paced show. They should prepare to be amazed by the artistic and athletic talents of our performers!

Stay tuned for photos and highlights from the performances next week!
