Dalglish Art Award Recipient: Alana Kim '22

We are so pleased to announce that Alana Kim ’22 was nominated as this year’s Peter Dalglish Art Award Recipient.

Each year, Lakefield College School awards a senior visual art student with the Peter Dalglish Art Award. The Peter Dalglish Art Award was established in 2014 by Geordie Dalglish ‘89 and Kim Dalglish Abell in honour of their father’s affection for Lakefield College School and his commitment to supporting young artists. The purpose of the award is to inspire, encourage, and recognize artistic talent at LCS by promoting promising young artists and their future contributions to art in Canada and beyond.

The recipient is selected by a panel of judges based on a portfolio and a written proposal. The recipient creates an original artwork which is then presented to the Head of School at Closing in June, to be displayed in a permanent collection.

About Alana

Alana has been expressing herself through art since as early as age five. Throughout her years at LCS, Alana has been a very active member of the art department and is currently SIC (Senior-in-Charge) of Visual Arts. She most enjoys working with graphite and oil paint. Alana’s other hobbies include dancing, travelling, and watching movies.

“I am super excited to be this year's recipient of the Dalglish award because I get to make a piece that is true to myself, and different from all of the previous ones. I've always been involved in the arts during my time at LCS, and I can't wait to create artwork that will eventually be a part of the Peter Dalglish collection. I am extremely grateful to have the opportunity to use my creativity and have a wide selection of materials and resources to do so. My piece represents the growth I've undergone at LCS and how it has shaped me into the person I am today. It depicts my journey from Grade 10, when I first arrived, to now. Throughout this process, I've sought inspiration from my family, friends, and teachers.”

Alana will begin working on her award artwork in the New Year and it will be unveiled during Closing in June.

Alana, we wish you all the best as you begin to create your artwork for the Peter Dalglish collection. We look forward to seeing what you create in June. Congratulations!
