Brent’s Team Cycles in the 2022 Jack Ride

The Jack Ride is Canada’s Ride for Youth Mental Health. It’s held each spring in support of thousands of young leaders working for the future of youth mental health in Canada. There was an official ride in Caledon, Ontario and many other satellite rides involving people all over Canada. Money raised from the ride is used to support the important work done by the organization Jack.org.

Lakefield College School has been an active supporter of Jack.org for several years, including having an active “Jack Chapter”. On May 29, students and staff participated in the Jack Ride as members of “Brent’s Team”. Brent Dadds ’20 sadly passed away in the spring of 2021. He was one of the first students to be part of Lakefield’s Jack Chapter, and so it is a privilege for the school community to be involved in the Jack Ride as a way of honouring his memory.

The student ride ran as an inter-house competition. There was a relay for boarders, using the THRIVE house bikes. The objective was to do as many laps of the campus as possible in one hour. Day students had the option of contributing to their house’s kilometres by riding from home.

We would like to congratulate Grove and Upper Colebrook Houses for riding the greatest distance and Ryder House for the greatest participation. Each house received a sizeable tub of ice cream and cones to enjoy as a house snack.

We are grateful to Central Smith Creamery and alumna Jillian Scates ’13 for this generous donation. The top individual rider, Evan Armstrong ’23, received a gift certificate from Stuff’d—a local business run by the family of staff member and alumnus, Elliot Exton ’11.

It was a beautiful day and there was a tremendous sense of spirit as our community rode together for a good cause. This THRIVE-sponsored initiative, which got students outdoors, active, connecting with friends and doing something to help others, was beneficial for everyone’s well-being!
