Celebrating the Power of Positivity at Flourish Fiesta

As the opening week at Lakefield College School drew to a close, our newest students were welcomed with open arms and hearts to the vibrant community that is LCS. Ms. Dalrymple, (Director of THRIVE, Lakefield's initiative dedicated to promoting positive psychology and wellbeing) organized the 4th annual Flourish Fiesta event. Flourish Fiesta is designed to introduce our new students to the principles of positive psychology that are woven into the fabric of the LCS experience.

Under clear skies and a gentle September sun, Flourish Fiesta 2023 was a resounding success, with over 150 new students immersing themselves in a day of discovery and connection.

Kicking off at 9:30 a.m., students made their way to our picturesque waterfront, where they engaged in a range of activities designed to foster positivity, mindfulness, and personal growth. Some of this year's activities included:

  • Mindfulness Trail Walk: Encouraging students to experience the therapeutic practice of forest bathing, immersing themselves in nature.
  • Wisdom Wall: Creating a communal wall of wisdom by sharing inspirational words on post-it notes, offering a source of inspiration and meaning for all.
  • Mindful Balance Exercise: Practicing mindfulness through a balance exercise, teaching the importance of balance in life.
  • Acts of Kindness Commitment: Encouraging each student to pledge two acts of kindness for the upcoming year, fostering a culture of compassion.
  • Duchenne Smiles: Capturing the purest smiles, known as Duchenne smiles, which radiate happiness and release endorphins.
  • Permission Rocks: Decorating "permission" rocks as a powerful reminder to embrace and honour all human emotions.
Flourish Fiesta was not just about activities but also about forging connections and building a sense of belonging within the LCS community. It was a day of celebration of positivity, mindfulness, and the bonds that tie us together.

As our new students embark on their LCS journey, they do so armed with knowledge of the principles that will help them flourish in every aspect of their lives.
