Jour de la Francofolie

By Ms. Sheilagh Knight

« Et croire que quelque part
Patiemment ce que je cherche m’attend déjà »
(And believe that somewhere
What I am looking patiently
Is already waiting for me)
- Amélie Veille (Un moment ma folie)

On Friday, May 6, about 100 LCS students gathered together to have some crazy good times in celebration of French culture!

Voyageurs in canoe races: Students from Grade 7 to 12 had great fun participating in the “skateboard canoe” races on the basketball court. About ten teams had a good time veering left and right, tottering over or going straight ahead towards the finish line, while onlookers cheered madly! Winners of the fastest canoe (1st prize) were: Mike Mackenzie, Ocean Saunders, Katie Garland and Laura McCloskey. Second prize went to Esme Muñoz, Hanna Quesnel and Jake Fell. Third prize went to Rob Selman, Maddy Hackstetter, Bella Taylor and Ali Sifton. Congratulations to everyone!

Afterwards, in Room 4, students made beautiful white mini-snow sculptures and impressed the judges with their artistry. First place sculptors were Spiro Trent and Maddy Hackstetter with their lovely fleur de lys, while Brooke Dunford and friends made an impressive igloo (2nd prize) and Asheesh Momi, Joel McGarritty, Mark Walter and Max Quesnel made a cute “maison avec antenne” (house with antenna).
While the sculpting was going on, the “ambiance” was provided by rocking karaoke singers who belted out and danced to Céline Dion’s very romantic tune En attendant ses pas and Amélie Veille’s gem of a tune Un moment ma folie. Two first prizes for excellent performances were awarded! Jesse Anglesey, Brooke Dunford, Paige Mackey and Rebecca Stears won first prize for spirit and best rendition of the Céline Dion song, while Maddy Hackstetter and Cecilia Gregory won first prize for their amazing interpretation of Amélie Veille! As for second prize, Brooke Hamilton, Julianne Wagner, Katlynn Moes, Esme Muñoz, Alex Westcott and Katie Garland won it for their magnificent effort singing Céline!

Thanks to everyone for the great times! C’était cool! C’était chouette! À la prochaine!
