1st Girls’ Hockey
Coaches: Ian Armstrong, Melissa Farwell

In their home opener, finally, with a full and healthy line up, and facing the first place team in western division, Lakefield College School's 1st Girls’ Hockey team faced off against the mighty Branksome Hall side from Toronto.

The fans in attendance, young and old alike were treated to some outstanding hockey by both teams; end to end rushes, terrific goaltending, and clean play.

LCS opened the scoring in the first period with a power play goal scored by Captain Jenna VanderVelden, with assists to Christine Aasheim-Sorensen and Katie Garland.

Branksome replied early in the second period to tie the game.  However, the girls in red and green roared back and retook the lead on Kristen Evan's rocket, with assists to Valerie Smith and Katie Garland, her second of the day.

In the third, lead by Karen Collins in net, all the girls were committed to a safe puck possession game plan.  Grinding the play down in the offensive zone with strong puck cycling, the girls held on to a huge 2-1 victory.  Every member of the team made contributions to the win.

Their next home game is at the Lakefield Arena on Wednesday, January 15 at 3:00 p.m.

Jr. Girls’ Volleyball
Coaches: Matt Adams, Heather Milne

On Wednesday, the Jr. Girls’ Volleyball team travelled to Ridley College School for our second league game. The first set did not go as well as we hoped it would, with a lot of nerves out on the court we lost 25-15.

The girls came back strong in the second set with Abby Lindsay and Sydney Ginns serving up most of our points. We won the second set 25-9.

The third set was a very close one with both teams staying even throughout. We came out as the winners with a 25-23 score. The girls worked well together on the court setting up some great plays. Hannah Forestall had some great setting while Rachel Thomson, Sequoia Richards, Aili Hollingsworth and Fiona Murray had some amazing hits.

Our next game is on Wednesday, January 8 at home, we hope you will come out and cheer us on, or watch it live online!
