1st Alpine Racing
Coaches: Peter Andras, Katrina Brennan
The LCS 1st Alpine Racing team headed to Brimacombe on Tuesday night to train hard for the Slalom race on Wednesday and the hard work paid off! Unfortunately, the Level 2A boys Chris Moodie and Carter McKnight were out of the team standings again today due to a few frustrating runs! The Level 2A girls were also out of the standings on the challenging course, however, Frederique Roy had an awesome day placing in 3rd place overall! The Level 1 girls teams stole the show! The level 1B team placed 1st (Roxane Piret 1st, Keely Matsusaki 4th, Maria Schmucker 5th, and Josie Carr-Harris 9th). Finally, the Level 1A girls won their division with an exceptional team effort! The team was tied for first but won in total time by just over 5 seconds, (Oona Goebbels 1st, Sara Hubble 3rd and Philine Hoyer 10th). The Alpine team travels again next Wednesday to Devils Glen. We are always looking for volunteers to come out and help at our races, providing an excellent opportunity for parents to join their kids on the hill. If you are able to volunteer your time to come out and help out on the hill we would love to have you! Please contact the coaches Peter Andras or Katrina Brennan.--
1st Boys’ Hockey
Coaches: Clark Davis, Sean Munoz
The 1st Boys' Hockey team travelled to Toronto to play Crescent School for their second of three straight away games this past Wednesday. After going down 1 - 0 early, Joe Gennaro tied the score on a tip from an Arlo Clarkson point shot. Despite being the better team for most of the game, LCS found themselves down 4 - 1 heading into the 3rd frame. LCS did manage to claw back into it with another goal from Joe Gennaro after a turnover by the home team, but it wasn't enough in the end as Crescent buried an empty-net goal in the dying seconds. Neven Ferguson had a great game between the pipes and made several key saves which kept it close. Final score - Crescent 5, Lakefield 2.
Jr. Boys’ Hockey
Coaches: Ian Armstrong, Jeff Mills
Lakefield College School's Jr. Boys' Hockey team travelled to Aurora to play St. Andrew's College in CISAA League Action. Hoping to rebound from a loss the week previous, the boys and red and green, with only 7 forwards and 5 defenders, were determined to play shift by shift, for the full 45 minutes.
Coach Mills and Armstrong were very pleased by the boys' work ethic and execution in all three zones of the ice. LCS' power player had numerous scoring chances, both off of the rush and off of set plays, but could not find the back of the net. LCS' penalty kill was a perfect 2 for 2 not allowing any goals against, primarily due to the outstanding head saves by Jack Campbell.
LCS’ goal was scored by Tommy Quick on a lovely back door pass from Ethan Daynes, created by the strong defensive play of Mason Schweer. LCS fell to St. Andrew's, but look forward to rebounding with a win this Saturday, at 1.30 pm, against TCS, at the Lakefield Smith Community Centre.
1st Girls’ Volleyball
Coaches: Tina St. John, Natasha Turner, Colin Simpson
On Wednesday the 1st Girls' Volleyball team travelled to Greenwood College to face a challenging rival. The girls started a little nervous but got a solid lead thanks to Madi Stillman's powerful serve and strong attacks. Unfortunately the girls lost the first set 19-25.
Determined to make a come back the girls fought hard for a win. Nikki Cannon had some great serves to get the team ahead. Sequoia Richards was able to confuse their defence by hitting to the middle hole and to deep corners. The girls fought hard to win the second game 25-21.
Nerves were high as we headed into the third game but LCS’ defence would not back down. Claudia Dargis was an unstoppable force back court and Hannah Forestall refused to let a ball touch the ground. She even managed TWO pancake saves. We won 25-16.
Finally the girls were put into a high pressure final game. The teams went point for point. The girls struggled to get a solid lead. Finally, thanks to the communication from their setter, Alex Rousseau, the girls managed to sneak ahead winning 26-24. A great win for the LCS girls!
Jr. Girls’ Volleyball
Coaches: Lucas Tompkins, Janice Runza
The Jr. Girls' Volleyball team played at Ridley College on January 20, 2016. Despite having a strong start to the first set and being up a significant number of points Ridley came back strong and LCS was unable to hang on, losing both sets.
The team was determined to come out strong this Wednesday when we played at St. Clement's School in Toronto. After a significant number of practices focussing on consistent serving and passing, the hard work paid off. Right from our first serve, the girls were hungry for the win. Their ability to work together as a team was evident, always seeking to set up the play from that first contact and ending with a hit or a well-placed volley. The girls won both sets with scores of 25 - 14 and 25 - 12. The team should be proud of their efforts and hopefully now have the belief in what they can accomplish when they work together on the court. Congratulations girls!
