Jr. Boys’ Basketball
Coaches: John Braeckman, Stephanie Kruzich

The boys suffered another tough loss falling 33 - 32 against The York School in regular league play at home on Wednesday. They came back after being down 2 - 11 after the first quarter to almost tie it up at 14 - 15 at the end of the first half. It all came down to the last quarter where Bernardo Castillon and Niko Wahlberg both put in 3-pointers to bring the score to 32 - 31 and give the boys the lead. With only a few seconds left on the clock and LCS holding their 1 point, TYS delivered the heart-breaker by making a Hail Mary buzzer-beating shot to win the game.  The game was live streamed, and can be watched in it’s entirety online.

Jr. Boys’ Hockey
Coaches: Ian Armstrong, Jeff Mills
One week after a tough loss to league leaders De La Salle College at home, the boys in red and green travelled to Toronto for the return engagement. Icing only nine (9) skaters but having Captain Jack Campbell back in goal, Coaches Mills and Armstrong knew that the team was committed to hard working performance.

Moving Mason Schweer back to defence created a new look all over ice and allowed the team to defend well and counter-attack quite effectively. Jordan Tucker was an outstanding physical presence in all three zones of the ice. The team was perfect on the penalty kill and created some strong offensive pushes off of the power play.  At the end of the second period, DLS has only a 4 - 2 lead.  LCS' goals were scored by Tommy Quick on a tremendous end-to-end rush and Brendan Rutherford on a remarkable play at both the offensive blue line, to remain on side, and at the net, with exceptional patience.

However, in the third period, the team's limited number of players took its toll as DLS were able to pull away for the victory.

This Friday and Saturday, the team looks forward to the Bob Armstrong 4-on-4 Winter Classic, hosted at the Bob Armstrong rink on campus at Lakefield College School.  Games begin at 5.30 p.m. on Friday evening and 8.30 a.m. Saturday morning.

1st Boys’ Hockey
Coaches: Clark Davis, Sean Munoz
The 1st Boys’ Hockey team made a long trip to the Mohawk 4-Iceplex in Hamilton on Wednesday afternoon to take on Hillfield Strathallan College in the first game of a home and home set.  After a fairly slow start to the first period, the boys finally opened the scoring when Tristan Walsh slipped one underneath the goalie’s pads after a hard forecheck.  He would finish his strong game with three points total (2G, 1A).  Despite tying the score at the end of the first period, Hillfield began to struggle against the speed and pressure of the LCS forwards and failed to stay out of the penalty box.  The second period saw LCS score five goals - two of which came from the blistering slap shots of Arlo Clarkson and Quinn MacMillan (1G, 1A).

Amidst the offensive onslaught, the goal-of-the-game came at the 14:50 mark of the second period: doing their best Niklas Backstrom and Alex Ovechkin impersonation, Gabriel Lalancette one-timed a beautiful cross-seam pass from Adrien Mindjimba (2A) on the power play, making the score 6-2.  Unfortunately, Mindjimba would exit the game in the third after taking a controversial cross-check to the head.  Scott Murphy stayed strong in net and even tacked on his first point of the season, assisting on the game’s opening goal.  Final score - Lakefield 7, Hillfield 2.

Lakefield will host Hillfield at 4pm this Friday at Lakefield Arena for its annual Hockey Day match.
