Learning from an MP

Today, the School Life Class held a live video conference with MP (Member of Parliament) Rob Oliphant, Co-Chair of the House-Senate Committee on "Physician Assistant Dying." Students presented stakeholder views ranging from patient rights, doctors rights, faith systems, and the Supreme Court regarding the upcoming vote in the House of Commons in June.
Today, the School Life Class held a live video conference with MP (Member of Parliament) Rob Oliphant, Co-Chair of the House-Senate Committee on "Physician Assistant Dying." Students presented stakeholder views ranging from patient rights, doctors rights, faith systems, and the Supreme Court regarding the upcoming vote in the House of Commons in June.
It was a very lively and interactive experience where all students had to present and speak to a particular stakeholder viewpoint and then receive feedback and questioning from MP Oliphant.
Students based their position statements on individual and team "Core Values." This interactive debate is one example of tough choices and moral decisions impacting individuals, families, communities and country which are not "black and white" but instead need to be based on weighing multiple contrasting stakeholder views and ultimately anchored in views underpinned by one's "Core Values."
Today's shared experience was part of a four-class series on Ethical Leadership being facilitated by Dr. Betsy McGregor.
The students in the School Life Class were extremely engaged, articulate, and appreciated by MP Oliphant who concluded our session with an invitation to join him on Parliament Hill.
