The goals of our program were for the Grade 9 students to spent time getting to know each other and to participate in activities that initiated the process of bringing them together as a team. The Grade 9 Orientation program also introduced the students to the LCS campus and the Village of Lakefield.
We witnessed high energy participation and enthusiasm from this group at all events, with a record number of teams trying to be the first to crack the final puzzle of our Amazing Race – all 61 students pretty much ran the 6km+ course through the Village of Lakefield and worked feverishly at each station to solve the clue.
The Peterborough Survivor’s Abreast Dragon Boat team took our students through the basics of training and paddling together with all three teams cheering and giving it there all for the full on anaerobic fun race at the end. Bowling and learning to beat in time as part of a drumline were also favourite events.
We had stellar weather for both campfires providing time in the evening to further mingle with others, laugh, sing, and roast hot dogs and s’mores. The students even got to see the Moon and Saturn, with its distinctive rings, through the telescope.
It was a great start to the year for our Grade 9 students!
