Riding on the wave of a three game winning streak, the 1st Boys' Soccer team entered Final Four competition play on Friday, November 4 at Villanova College. LCS shook off their tired bus legs on a cold and windy morning to win their semifinal against the Villanova hosts with a 3-1 score. Upper Canada College advanced from their semi to set up the final bout. In their second game of the day, the Grove boys got off to a hot start on the back of two Jack Campbell goals to gain a quick 2-0 lead. However, UCC fought back strongly to tie the game 2-2. Two nervous and frantic overtime periods were not enough to separate the sides, so penalty kicks were required to decide the winner. LCS converted all four of their kicks and goalkeeper Taylor Walsh stepped up in a huge way by making two incredible diving saves to seal the win and bring home the gold medals. Congratulations on your win, gentlemen! Your coaches, and The Grove as a whole, are proud of your effort and achievement this season.
1st Girls’ Field Hockey
The 1st Girls’ Field Hockey team met its biggest challenge on Saturday, November 5 at the Iceland Park in Mississauga. The players battled Hillfield Strathallan College in the semi-final match and lost in the final minutes of the game, 2-1. HSC went on to win the title and we congratulate them on their exceptional play throughout the season.
Coaches King and Chellew want to extend immense appreciation to all the girls on the team who made our experience so rewarding. The spirit on this team was unbreakable and it grew from within. We will miss all of our athletes as they continue on to other endeavours, but we are grateful for the all the effort and energy they put into this wonderful game.
