Welcoming New Members

By Gerry Bird

On May 25, several long-serving LCS staff members and their spouses gathered at the Old Bridge Inn for the annual dinner and celebration of the school’s “25-Year Club.”  This informal group acknowledges the contribution of those with at least twenty-five years of service to Lakefield College School, and also recognizes long-serving staff members who will be leaving at the end of the current school year.

Although she was unable to attend, due to another school function, former Head of School, David Hadden, delivered a toast to Sarah McMahon – herself a former Interim Head - who will retire from her current position as CEO of the LCS Foundation next month after seventeen years at Lakefield College School.

Debbie Buckley then recognized Sheila Wilson’s sixteen years at LCS, the last several of which she served as the Administrative Assistant, Learning Commons Program and Attendance Clerk.

This was followed by Mike Arsenault’s tribute to Tom Fife’s illustrious, thirty-two year career in the Facilities department.  Tom, who officially retired a couple of months ago, has spent the vast majority of this time as the school’s head carpenter.

And finally, Gerry Bird honoured the important contribution of Richard Hagg to Lakefield College School.  Richard, who has filled a variety of roles over the course of his distinguished, thirty-five year career at LCS (the last dozen or so as Director of Academic Administration) will retire in June.

Along with a delicious meal, the thoroughly enjoyable evening featured some spirited reminiscing and sharing of stories – which is perhaps not surprising, as a quick tally revealed that the fifteen members and guests in attendance represented a combined 369 years of service to LCS!
