Global Discovery Club: A Taste of Kenya with Mr. Eshikaty!

In a celebration of cultural exchange and culinary exploration, Lakefield College School's Global Discovery Club recently had the pleasure of hosting Mr. Eshikaty for a journey into Kenyan cuisine. With three of our students hailing from Kenya, the stage was set for an authentic and memorable experience.

As the aroma of spices filled the air and Kenyan music set the tone, Mr. Eshikaty and our students prepared flavourful dishes. Each student eagerly contributed snacks from their homeland, making for an even more immersive experience.

With enthusiasm and curiosity, everyone pitched in for the preparation. Special recognition goes to Iliyan ’25 and Willow ’24, who took the reins in stirring the "Ugali," a staple dish in Kenyan cuisine—a task that proved to be both a workout and a test of patience, much to the amusement of all involved.

For our Kenyan students, the experience was a taste of home, a comforting reminder of their roots, and a moment of connection.

Reflecting on the day's events, Mr. Eshikaty shared, "Of all the moments I get to share with students, cooking Kenyan food tops the list! I hope to return with more recipes to continue the culinary adventures and create more 'just like home' moments for our Kenyan students."

As the Global Discovery Club continues to foster cultural understanding and appreciation, we extend our thanks to Mr. Eshikaty for his enthusiasm in sharing his heritage with our community. Here's to many more culinary adventures and moments of connection in the months to come!
