Movember Begins

By Derek Doucet

As we all know, Struan Robertson is a man of action. A man who sets himself apart from the rest and today, the first day of Movember Struan Robertson did not disappoint. In a bold move, he officially renamed the month formerly known as November to Movember, a subtle yet impactful change!

The Chapel was abuzz yesterday as we officially launched our 3rd Movember Campaign in as many years at LCS. Students are all very excited to start the journey of growing/wearing a MO to change the face of men's health and bring some much needed awareness around public enemy number 1 for men - Prostate Cancer! The Mo Bros and Mo Sistas will be looking to start conversations and raise some money to help with various Movember programs that are exploring treatments and early detection of Prostate Cancer.

It is clear that Movember is here to stay, although some would be MO Bros worry about growing a moustache because of aesthetics or that their partners don't like them, the facts don't lie. Did you know that 1 in 4 Canadians will be diagnosed with Cancer? Did you know that 4,000 men will lose the battle with Prostate Cancer this year alone. Did you know the reasons why men don't see their doctors are because they simply can't find the time to fit it in? So gentlemen, your sons, daughters, grandchildren, friends and LCS community like having you around, so take care of yourselves and see your doctor regularly. Ladies, we know the men in your lives won't do it on their own, so please support them in any way you can.

Movember at LCS is something we take seriously, but we also have A LOT of fun! Some of the events this year include - MO Caricature contest, MOlden Mos - documentary contest, MOlar Bear Dip - at the end of the month in the lake, MO Bros and Sistas of the Week, awards for Best MO, Lame MO, and Best MO Sista, as well as a Brush with Fame where Mo Bros and Mo Sistas get their picture taken with celebrities. So if you are looking for a team to join - hope on the Lakefield MO-llege School team - we'd be happy to have you aboard!

You can support the Movember campaign by starting conversations about health and wellness, and grow a Mo or participate as a Mo Sista! It's going to be a Movember to Remember!
