1st Boys’ Rugby
Coaches: Garret Hart, Darren Mossman, Colin Simpson
On Wednesday May 3, the 1st Boys’ Rugby team headed to Rosseau Lake College for their first full tournament of the season.  The team is playing 7-aside rugby again this season, which means each event allows for competition against several teams in short, intense 15 minute games.

With bright blue skies and warm temperatures, it was a great afternoon for rugby!  Things got started against Greenwood College School on a soft muddy pitch. Despite being down by two tries early in the match the boys battled back with tries from Joe Ribbins, Mitch Lund and Logan Ball, who also added two conversions.  That amounted to a 19-12 victory for LCS.  The next opponent was the host team, Rosseau Lake College.  Despite some big bodies on the other side, our boys were able to rack up a 24-0 score with tries from Matt Lovick, Joe Ribbins, Jacob Kee and Andrew Maltman.  Logan Ball added two conversions to the effort.  The final game against a strong side from Royal St. George's College had the boys in victory column again with tries from Russell Henlin and Matt Lovick with another a conversion from Logan Ball for a 12-0 tally.  The boys are currently in first place in the CISAA east division, but they will have a tough road ahead with tournaments on Wednesday (Toronto) and Saturday (Hamilton) next week.

1st Girls’ Soccer
Coaches: Janice Runza, Danielle Labrosse
On Friday April 28, the 1st Girls' Soccer team faced The York School at home. LCS had a slow start to the game scoring only 1 goal in the first half, courtesy of Maddy McGowan, a Grade 9 student who was brought up from the junior team as an extra.  Fortunately, after a team chat at half-time, the girls pulled it together and played the way they know how - with technical strength and determination, scoring 7 goals in the second half.  Goals in the second half were scored by Maddy McGowan, Fred Roy, Clara Mindjimba, Sabrina Parent (with a back header!), Ally Lovick (2) and Nikki Cannon. The shut-out goes to Sophie Milburn.  Thank you are extended to Maddy McGowan and Laura Pede who agreed to play up for us!

On Wednesday May 3, the team travelled to Toronto French School to play on a very small turf field.  We knew that working in such a compressed area on a fast surface would be challenging, especially against a team as technically solid as TFS.  TFS scored early in the first half, but LCS was battling and it became a game that went back and forth, from end to end.  At half LCS was down 2-0 so the team re-grouped, discussed areas needing improvement, and became more organized in holding our shape as well as communicating. TFS came out strong and scored early in the second half, but then Ally Lovick found the net on a penalty kick giving the team a boost in confidence and momentum.  LCS began to find their groove and scored again, but unfortunately ran out of time, losing 3-2.  Although disappointed in the final score, the team pushed themselves right to the final whistle and the coaches are incredibly proud of how the girls played in tough, very physically challenging, game.

The team is looking ahead to another challenging game at Crestwood Preparatory School on Wednesday May 10.

Jr. Girls’ Soccer
Coaches: Laura King, Emily Pederson
The Jr. Girls’ Soccer team played their first league home game of the season on Wednesday afternoon. The sun was shining as LCS faced St. Mildred's-Lightbourn School for the first time this season. Both teams demonstrated strong skills, with solid plays both offensively and defensively on each end of the field. Halfway through the first half, St. Mildred’s scored the first goal. LCS was determined to even the score, and did so with an amazing goal by Ella Shanahan-Guay. We finished the first half tied. The girls continued to put forth their best effort throughout the second half, and once again impressed their coaches with their positive attitudes and ability to play as a team. Unfortunately, St. Mildred’s scored one more goal, leaving the final score at 2-1. We look forward to next Wednesday, when we will travel to Oakville to face this team again!
