1st Boys’ Rugby
Coaches: Garret Hart, Darren Mossman, Colin Simpson
On Wednesday, May 24, LCS had the privilege of hosting the CISAA Division 1 Senior Boys 7s Rugby Championships.

Our team had finished as the top team in the league and earned home field advantage for the event. In the opening game against Greenwood College School, our boys hit the score sheet with the first try from Chris Cameron and a conversion from Logan Ball. Two other scoring opportunities in the second half were reversed by penalty calls which opened the door for GCS to level the match and eventually take the lead in the dying seconds of the game.  Despite the 12-7 loss, our boys found the inner resolve to push on.

In the second match of the day, the LCS squad proved too talented for the opposition from Crestwood Preparatory College.  In one of their best outings of the year, our boys dominated play and had tries from Chris Cameron ( 2), Jacob Kee (2), Dorian Piret and Joe Ribbins and two conversions for Logan Ball.  With a 34-7 victory, there was still a glimmer of hope that the boys could earn the gold medals.

In the final match of the day, LCS faced Hillfield Strathallen College, who had been the top team in the league's west division.  Having beaten HSC earlier in the year, our boys were confident they could deliver a victory.  It was a wonderful match to watch, with both teams displaying some impressive rugby skills.  But, as with the earlier result, our boys proved to be the better team and won the match on tries from Andrew Maltman, Matthew Lovick and Russell Henlin with one conversion from Logan Ball.

As LCS, GCS and HSC all finished the tournament with a 2-1 record, the tie breaking format went to point differentials. So despite beating HSC twice in this season, they had a 10 point advantage in point totals and were awarded the gold medals. This is one time where I feel the boys truly earned the silver medal! They could have folded after their first loss, but instead, they found their competitive spirit and battled to the end. It has been a pleasure working with this talented group of athletes and I wish these young men all the best in their future rugby careers.

1st Girls’ Soccer
Coaches: Janice Runza, Danielle Labrosse
On Wednesday May 24, the 1st Girls' Soccer team hosted Crestwood Preparatory College for the Division II semi-finals. LCS started the game with strong, dominating play right from the whistle, but despite numerous attempts we were unable to find the back of the net. CPS was first to score, so with a score at half of 1-0 LCS knew that time was running out and strategically had to up their game. With a beautiful cross from Carissa Hickson, Sophie Welch was able to put it in the net from the back post, to tie the game. LCS continued to provide significant offensive pressure, with shot after shot, but were still unable to score and frustration grew. At the end of regular time the teams were forced into overtime for 5 minutes - still no goals, putting them into the second overtime. Still tied 1-1 the teams went into penalty kicks, with goals/misses from both teams, forcing them to continue to the 8th shooter. Unfortunately, CPC was able to hit the net to win the semi-final game.

The coaches are extremely proud of the effort of the LCS team as they battled throughout the entire game, stayed positive, and never accepted defeated until that final whistle. The team would like to thank Laura Pede who was called up from the junior team throughout the season in order that she would help us out in playoffs and add more depth to our team. Congratulations girls!

1st Girls’ Tennis
The girls' tennis season was one of spectacular energy and commitment to growth. All of their hard work paid off when we travelled to Toronto to play Greenwood College School on Wednesday of last week.

The team came in fierce and hungry for a win, and win they did! Anna Maxwell and Ximena Castro won 8-0 in their respective matches and Isabella won 8-4 - which made for a clean sweep in the singles matches. Our 1st Doubles team of Syerra Richards and Carolina Gonzalez Hernandez came up big in their match and won 8-4 clinching the victory for the LCS Terrapins. Two great matches were played in the other doubles matches: Heather Park and Roxane Piret lost 8-5 and Avery Morton and Robyn Mack lost in a thrilling tie-break.

It has been great to have support from fans this year both at home and away, including Sequoia Richards '16 who came out last week!
