Jr. Boys’ Soccer
The Jr. Boys’ Soccer team had high spirits going into their match against Greenwood College School this week, having just experienced a comfortable victory over Upper Canada College. However, preparations for the match did not unfold as expected. A string of injuries and torrential rain on Friday afternoon, in combination with our top goal keeper being unavailable for selection, meant training was anything but smooth throughout the week. This was clearly apparent in the first 20 minutes of the game against Greenwood College during which their fresh team - playing their first game of the season - dominated possession and peppered our goal repeatedly. During one of these onslaughts, unfortunately, Greenwood College managed to break through and put the ball in the back of the net. 1-0 Greenwood.

Greenwood’s first goal was the perfect wake-up call for the LCS boys who slowly started to work their way back into the game. Their hard-work and resilience were duly rewarded with a sleek through-ball from Jordan Caravaggio, which Aidan Segura was able to get onto the end of and put away with a world-class chip over the keeper.  The boy’s perseverance paid off and the tide turned - LCS started playing the fantastic soccer that we all know they were capable of; Angus Rhodes calmly brought it out from the defence, Paul Prindiville-Porto won the ball back in midfield and Blake Wickware made some dangerous runs down the right-hand side. There was no question of our dominance when Ale Verda went on a mesmerizing run before squaring the ball to Aidan Segura who cleanly scored his second goal of the match.

The players celebrated. The crowd went wild. The bench raced down the sideline. But it was not to be - the referee called play back for an offside! There is no doubt that the decision took the wind out of the LCS boys’ sails, as Greenwood College began to attack once again. As the Greenwood offence loomed ominously, Luc Reeve pulled off some quality reflex saves that managed to keep LCS in the game. However, it was only a matter of time before Greenwood College got their second goal. It was 2-1 and time was ticking away.

It is with tremendous pride that I report that the LCS boys did not give up; every single one of them kept running and running and running (special mention to Ale Verda who seemed to chase every loose ball in his vicinity). It is no exaggeration to say that we left everything on that pitch in an attempt to salvage something from a game that had been our toughest to date. With five minutes to go, it looked like it had all been in vain. However, after a particularly dangerous foul on Jordan Caravaggio in the box, LCS was given a chance to level the game from the penalty spot. Caravaggio took the ball with confidence and placed it on the white dot. With a powerful shot that sent the keeper the wrong way, LCS managed to bring the game back from the brink of defeat with a tie! Final score 2-2.

1st Boys’ Volleyball
On Wednesday, September 27, the 1st Boy's Volleyball team competed in their first game of the season at TFS in Toronto. The team played and worked very well together and came out ahead - winning the game in 3 sets with scores of 25-20, 26-24, 25-22. Overall, the team demonstrated great communication skills, hustle and showed amazing growth from start to finish. Highlights from the match include great hits from AB Salah and Drew Crix, commendable  action from Timur Dauletov who stepped into a starting role when an injury occurred early in the game, and a standout performance by Nick Latimer our setter and the hardest working player on the floor. Although the team has room for improvement in both skill and gameplay, they show amazing potential and the coaches  have high hopes for this season.

1st Girls’ Field Hockey
Not only was Saturday a fabulous day weather-wise, it was a fabulous day for Lakefield College School’s Fall Fair and girls’ field hockey. Having travelled to play Trinity College School the weekend before,  it was Lakefield’s turn to host TCS and the girls were determined to come out again with a win on their home turf. The girls played a beautiful game of field hockey. Lizzy Hood earn a hat-trick and single goals were scored by Ashley Boyes, Clara Mindjimba, Allie Avard and Ella Shanahan-Guay.  A special acknowledgement goes to the team's goalie, Sophie Peters, who earned a shutout!  LCS walked away from the game with a 7-0 victory. Excellent game, ladies!
