This week, we have updates from our 1st Boys’ Basketball, Jr. Boys’ Basketball, Jr. Girls’ Volleyball, 1st Nordic Racing, Curling, and our 1st Snowboard and Alpine Racing teams. From dominating wins to impressive individual performances, these teams have been pushing themselves to new heights and achieving great success. Keep reading to learn more about the excitement happening in our athletic programs.

1st Boys’ Basketball
One of their strongest games so far this season, our 1st Boys’ Basketball team played a tough match against Bayview Glen School. They had several great plays and made smart offensive decisions, which led them to a solid win. The team is now gearing up to head to Montreal for a tournament next week. Good luck, team!

Jr. Boys’ Basketball
Our Junior Boys’ Basketball team also played a very strong game against Bayview Glen School this week. They had several great plays and strengthened their offensive work, which led them to a win. Special recognition to Irving ’26 who had some great 3-pointers!

Jr. Girls’ Volleyball
Our Junior Girls’ Volleyball team played their first home game in a while! They played three strong sets and won their match against Toronto French School. Go, team!

1st Nordic Racing
In collaboration with Kawartha Nordic and Kawartha Region, we hosted the Kawartha Nordic Invitational Ski Race this past Wednesday. We were pleased to welcome over 100 athletes from the local area to compete on our course. Kudos to our Novice division, which featured many first-time racers who displayed strong skills and sportspersonship.

Curling
We are thrilled to share the results of our first-ever curling program! The team travelled for an exhibition game at Bradford Curling Club to see how their training has paid off. Our students learned a lot by playing against athletes who have played in structured games before, so hopefully, there is more to come!

1st Snowboard Racing
Congratulations to our 1st Snowboard Racing team who competed at the Alpine Ski Club this week.

“I am proud to say that for Giant Slalom Snowboard Racing, Alexis ’25, Thomas ’26, and Ashwyn ’24 came first in their divisions! Congratulations also to Willow ’24 came 3rd in his division! For slope style Thomas ’26 and Ashwyn ’24 came first in their division and Alex ’25 came 3rd in her division for park! These are some really amazing results and will help our team scores greatly.” - Mr. Lind

1st Alpine Racing

On Wednesday, January 18, the LCS Alpine team traveled to Mansfield near Shelburne, Ontario for their first race of the season. Despite facing challenging conditions due to warm weather and foggy conditions the day before, the team persevered and put in a strong performance. Due to a bus delay, the students arrived late to the race, but they quickly got out onto the hill and pushed themselves to the limit. The course was difficult, with huge ruts, soft snow, and snow banks, but the team was determined to give it their all.

Both school teams struggled but they gained valuable experience that will serve them well in future races. These young athletes have a bright future and are sure to see success following more practice at Sir Sams.

The story of the day was the exceptional efforts of our seasoned racers; the Open Athletes had an excellent day. The Open Females category with Ophélie ’24 (7th), Fiona ’26 (9th), Mya ’23 (10th), and Avery ’24 (18th) are currently in second place in the league. Lauren ’26 had an excellent second run but unfortunately fell in the first run and was disqualified. The Open Males category was led by Nate ’25 (6th), Charlie ’23 (14th), Charles ’24 (16th), and Liam ’24 (18th) and is currently in third place! Harrison ’25 and Nate ’24 both put made a great effort on the hill and while they did not finish the race, they will have another chance in Collingwood next week!
