Launching into the 2023/24 School Year at LCS

Our campus roared back to life this week as we eagerly welcomed our new Grade 9 to 11 students, along with our Grads. We can't wait to greet the rest of our returning students tomorrow, bringing back the vibrant energy that makes The Grove a special place to be.

On Tuesday, our Grade 12 students, the Grads, stepped onto campus and immediately dove into our Grad Leadership Conference. This annual tradition is a cornerstone for leadership development, equipping them with the skills and mindset they need to lead by example throughout the year. It's a chance for them to settle in, grow comfortable with their leadership roles, and set the stage for a successful academic year.

Thursday was a day of new beginnings as our Grads extended warm welcomes to our new students. House games and rotating orientation activities filled the day, including:

  • Introduction to the Health Centre: Ensuring everyone knows where to turn for wellness support.
  • Field Games: Letting off steam and building camaraderie through play.
  • Safety and the School Life Guide: Prioritizing safety and understanding LCS policies.
  • THRIVEing at Lakefield: Discovering strategies for personal growth and well-being.
  • Waterfront Safety: Ensuring safe enjoyment of our beautiful lakefront.
  • Introduction to Edsby: Getting to grips with our digital learning platform.
The orientation excitement will continue into Saturday as we roll out the welcome mat for our returning students and host our 4th annual Flourish Fiesta. In the afternoon, students will engage in a series of activities, diving into various facets of school life at LCS. These activities will encompass The School Life Guide, Healthy Learning Practices, and our Community Values. To strengthen the bonds of our community, students will partake in Paper House Games, complete swim tests, and engage in 'Get to Know You' Bingo.

With these engaging activities and a strong foundation laid, we are ready to embrace the new school year with enthusiasm, unity, and a commitment to fostering growth and community at Lakefield College School.
