Sotirios ’24 is the Newest Member of the Young's Point Radio Controlled Flying Club

The first Saturday in April was a balmy one with clear skies and light winds—a great day for Sotirios '24 to take maiden flights on his two recent RC kits: an Avanti 1300mm free wing arf Ultimate Performance and a red AVISTAR balsa wood plane kit 1560mm at the Young's Point Radio Controlled Flying Club field on Young's Point Road.

Sotirios holds a Model Aeronautics Association of Canada (MAAC) membership and has many years of RC scratch-builds and assemblies in his repertoire. When asked what his favourite part about flying RC planes is, Sotirios said, “My favourite thing about RC planes is mostly how creative you can get as well as the building part—seeing something you created with your own hands flying is an incredible experience and a big achievement, in my opinion.”

LCS is uniquely positioned to support Sotirios' flying ambitions through a network of RC pilots, manned aircraft pilots, and an RC aircraft field located a 10-minute drive from the front door of his residence...providing a support network "Like No Other".

Under the supervision of our Information Systems Technician, Isaac Eshikaty, Sotirios loaded up the LCS van with his RC models and arrived at the field at 1:30 pm to meet the Young's Point RC Flying Club Technical Director, Bill Lasky.

“It was a really cool experience. We were greeted by Bill Lasky, a very friendly local guy who is running the club. He was really excited to show us around the airfield and how they maintain it.” - Sotirios

Sotirios demonstrated punctuality, a thorough routine in pre-flighting the RC, observation of safety protocol, in addition to a gorgeously assembled kit, and Bill Lasky was happy to sign off on his club membership. Sotirios additionally demonstrated his drone First Person View (FPV), which can accelerate to speeds upwards of 100 km/hr that captured the members out flying on this day.
