1st Nordic Racing
The 1st Nordic Racing team has had a great start to the season! Last week, the team competed in the Kawartha Invitationals at Kawartha Nordic, just north of Lakefield. Braving the crazy changes in weather, everyone had a fun but challenging day. In the Novice category, our first-year skiers, Olivia Thompson, Artur Renzenbrink, and Wulfric Harris-Stoertz all did very well for their first races. Artur placed first in his category while Olivia came third! In Junior Girls, Anna Harris barely look tired after her race, while still placing second overall! Liam Cole, only Junior Boy, placed sixth overall, but first in the CISAA category. Our Senior Girls, Tess Wilson, Rachel Harding, Sarah Shi, Hanna Su, and Becky Botello were all neck and neck of each other, making their 5.8 km race very exciting! The Senior Boys, Kyle Lee, Zack Masciangelo, James Fang and Jack Zhang had the longest race at 7.8 km, but they rose to the occasion, even in the blizzardy weather. It was the first time for all of these boys to compete at this distance, so we are very proud of their accomplishments. Overall, it was a very successful day and a great start to the competitive season.

This week, LCS hosted a fun race for the local Nordic teams. Although the icy conditions made the course a bit more challenging, everyone competed with determination while still enjoying themselves. With a home field advantage, our skiers all had great races. A shout out to Rachel Harding who had a bad fall on the ice but still came back to cheer on her teammates!

We are off to Haliburton next week for the CISAA Championships!

Jr. Girls’ Volleyball
On Friday, February 3, the Jr. Girls’ Volleyball team travelled to Trafalgar Castle School in Whitby.  The first and second games were incredibly close, with both teams battling back when down a few points.  LCS took the match with scores of 25-20, 25-21 and 25-10.

On Wednesday, February 8, the team travelled to Country Day School in King City.  LCS knew that CDS would be a tough competitor as they are currently ranked third out of ten teams.  In the first game Kenzie McCallum started us off with her strong serve, earning us 7 straight points.  With great teamwork LCS was able to hang onto the early lead and won 25-17.  In the second game CDS and LCS battled back and forth throughout the entire match.  LCS won in the end with a close score of 25-23.  LCS had a tough third game and was challenged to find their groove, especially against a very strong CDS server, and lost 15-25.  In the fourth game LCS found their groove and made some great plays, showing strong teamwork.  The team was able to get ahead early and played well to hold on, winning the final match 25-14.  This was the last match that Captain Anna Rasmus would be able to play as she will be leaving next week on exchange to Argentina.  We wish her well but will miss her voice, her leadership, and the strength she has brought to this team.

The coaches are proud of how the girls played and are looking forward to facing Toronto Montessori School at home on Wednesday, February 15, and then our last league game against Pickering College, also at home, on Wednesday, February 22.  The team has improved significantly over the term and we anticipate even further growth.

1st Alpine Racing
The stormy weather didn’t stop the 1st Alpine Racing team from a successful day on the slopes. The hills were icy and the race courses were steep, but all of our skiers put forth an excellent performance. The School Trained Female Athletes (Level 1) are officially going to OFSAA! Congratulations to Juliette Polito, Philine Hoyer, Roxane Piret, Keely Matsusaki, and Sara Hubble. Their hard work this season has paid off! Scott Thompson had an outstanding second run in the Open Division (Level 2-Club Trained Racers), and will also be competing at OFSAA. We are proud to have these skiers repressing LCS!

Also competing in the Open Division, Noah Story placed 6th out of 47 racers. Chris Moody and Betsy MacDonnell also had solid performances despite the icy conditions. The School Trained Male Athletes (Level 1) skied well-Magnus Hepburn came 16th, Brent Dadds 22nd, Pedro Ojeda 24th, Conor Sanahan-Guay 27th, and James Hubble 28th, in a category of 52 racers.

It has been an amazing season so far, and we look forward to our championship race next Wednesday at Alpine Ski Club!

1st Boys’ Hockey
After a sluggish start on the road and facing the first place team in the western division of the league, the boys in red and green continued to battle to keep the score close. Matt Lovick scored great goal off of a strong and well timed pass from Tristan Walsh. Zach Masciangelo scored a big power play goal mid way through the third period, taking the puck strong to the net on his back hand. Goalie Antoine Rapp gave the team a chance to win and deserved a better result.

1st Girls’ Volleyball
Last week, the 1st Girls' Volleyball team traveled to Richmond Hill to play Holy Trinity School.  With a number of ill and injured players, the girls fought hard to keep up with the hard-hitting team.  Laurie St.Onge stepped in as setter and did a fabulous job at setting up attacks for her teammates. Clara Seitz made some great blocks, and Rachel Leung did an impressive job covering the right side and Leanne Britton-Foster made some great passes. In the end, LCS fell short and was unable to bring home the win.

This week, the 1st Girls' Volleyball team traveled to Oakville to take on St. Mildred's-Lightbourn School. The girls played well and had incredible rallies with this well-matched team.  Hannah Forestall was on fire with her impressive serves and phenomenal swings front court. Reyna Krocker made some smart plays at the net and Madi Stillman was incredible defensively back court while swinging hard from every corner of the court.  Nikki Cannon and Sophie Peters both had solid serve runs and dropped some great tips.  Though this game was was close LCS lost 3-0.

1st Boys’ Hockey
The 1st Boys’ Hockey team was well prepared to maintain their high level of performance in road games against a skilled and quick side from the Nichols School in Buffalo, NY.

Play was quite balanced in the first period, as both teams used the width of the rink to their advantage. However, Nichols was able to put one goal in before the end of the period.

LCS bounced back as Quinn MacMillan scored from in tight, after a nice feed out of the corner from captain Tristan Walsh.

Then, in the third period, Quinn pounced on a loose puck at the top of the circle and sent a rocket into the top corner for a 2-1 lead.

All nine forwards and six defenders, and Jack Campbell in goal, held true to the game plan and iced a 2 - 1 final score victory, solidifying third place in the league.
