Celebrating LCS Volunteers

In the past year, more than 200 volunteers have contributed to our school community. These volunteers come from all backgrounds: alumni, parents, alumni parents, community members, staff and students. Volunteers donate an incredible amount of time and energy supporting countless LCS initiatives including:

  • Event support such as marketing, baking, selling, recruiting, entertaining little ones and outreach
  • Admissions Ambassadors which involves welcoming prospective families to our community
  • Trustees and Board Members
  • Grove Society Committee Members who serve in our Executive, Parent Chapter and Alumni Chapter
  • Hepburn Challenge Captains
  • Career Day Speakers
To celebrate the exceptional spirit of giving within our community, Anne-Marie Kee hosted the annual LCS Volunteer Appreciation Event. Volunteers enjoyed an intimate and memorable evening while great conversations were had over wine and cheese. Afterwards, volunteers were treated to tickets to the LCS Fall Musical, CHICAGO: High School Edition.

It was a very special evening for three volunteers who were honoured as 2019 Red Door Award recipients: Su Armstrong P'13, '15, Andrew Parke '03, and Cara Rasmus P'16, '19. Anne-Marie Kee shared heartfelt remarks for Su, Andrew and Cara while highlighting their many contributions to LCS over the years. Andrew joined us through video conference from Calgary for the occasion. It was a wonderful evening celebrating the passion and commitments of so many dedicated volunteers. We are so thankful for everyone who gives their time and talents as volunteers.

2019 Red Door Recipients

Cara Rasmus P '16, '19
We are honoured to recognize the valuable contributions that Cara Rasmus has made to our school over the years. As the proud parent of Anna ‘19 and Kyle ‘16, Cara has shown outstanding commitment to the Grove Society and broader LCS community. In her role as Chair of Volunteers with the Grove Society Parent Chapter, Cara has devoted her time, efforts and enthusiasm to countless events and initiatives from Regatta Day to Fall Fair and everything in between! It takes a special person to do this kind of work: one must possess strong communication and organizational skills while being a natural leader. Cara, volunteers like you are a vital part of our community - thank you!

Andrew Parke '03
Andrew Parke, Co-Head Student of the Class of 2003, has been a highly-motivated and passionate volunteer for LCS for nearly a decade. Andrew has served in a vast array of roles - Grove Society Executive, including Alumni Chapter President, School Trustee, Hepburn Alumni Challenge Decade Captain, and Andy Harris Cup: LCS Golf Tournament Committee Chair. Andrew’s enthusiasm for the Grove is contagious, and his action regularly inspires others to give back.

Andrew is among the most passionate champions of our Financial Assistance program. Always willing to draw from his own experiences, he has -- with remarkable regularity -- brought entire rooms to tears with his story of opportunity and gratitude. His impact on LCS has been transformative to date, and I think it’s safe to say that it will continue onward in new and evolving ways.

Su Armstrong P '13, '15
Beyond her incredible commitment to LCS as a faculty member, alumni parent, advisor, and coach, Su has served as the Faculty Representative to the Grove Society Executive for the past four years -- making her the longest serving Faculty Rep to the Grove Society in its modern reincarnation! Su’s contributions are numerous, and she has provided thoughtful perspective on the student experience, helping keep the GS well-informed on daily life at the Grove. Su guided the group through creating a number of faculty and staff focused initiatives in recent years, including contributions to the THRIVE Health and Wellness initiative and the Annual Staff Appreciation brunch. Su also has been a champion of the Grove Gift program, helping to update the application and selection process through the use of technology. Always positive, helpful and engaged, Su represented the LCS in a comprehensive and thoughtful way.
