Outdoor Exploration | The OE Class Ventures to Northcote
This week, our Grade 11 Outdoor Education (OE) classes set out for an overnight stay at our Northcote campus to enjoy the beautiful fall weather and put their OE skills to the test. Students paddled six kilometres against a strong current, arriving at Northcote just before dark to set up camp. Wielding tents and tarps, they learned how to create a safe and comfortable living space outdoors. In addition to being exciting and fun, this overnight trip offered students the chance to experientially practice and combine all of the camping skills that they have been taught in the first few weeks of classes. Once settled, the groups cooked dinner together and participated in some traditional camping activities, including an evening hike and a campfire with s’mores. The crew tucked in early to ensure they were ready for day two. Rising bright and early, students fuelled up with a hearty breakfast before packing up camp and trekking back to campus. Overall, their excursion was a great success!
