Practicing the Art of Persuasion in Ms. Hansler’s Grade 12 Law Class

Ms. Hansler’s Grade 12 Law class practiced the art of persuasion this week. Taking advantage of the beautiful fall weather, the class gathered outdoors for a “cross the line” activity. Ms. Hansler separated students into groups of three; two students aimed to persuade each other and the third student acted as an observer.

Ms. Hansler gave each student a scenario that outlined the task at hand. They had three minutes to convince their peers to “cross the line” and take up their perspectives.

If they were able to successfully encourage the student to cross over, they won the task. The third team member observed and remarked on strategies used before taking their own turn.

This exercise gave students the opportunity to practice their persuasive skills and communicate their ideas and perspectives in an effective way. Ms. Hansler was impressed with the skills students demonstrated as they thoughtfully argued their points with evidence.
