A Chance Encounter | Reconnecting at The Grove

Our alumni often tell us about the long-lasting friendships they form at The Grove—friendships that continue for years following their graduation. However, we don’t often hear stories about students who reconnect right here at The Grove for their high school experience. This was the case for Miles ’23 and Willis ’25.

In 2017, Miles was residing in Shanghai, China, and Willis was residing in Beijing, China. They didn't know each other, but both loved playing hockey. They were both invited to observe a Washington Capitals game in Washington D.C., a trip that lasted 13 days during which the kids also played the game together.

Now, almost 5 years later, the two have reunited, Miles in Grade 11 and Willis in Grade 9, at LCS and landed in the same residence! The friends had no contact after the game in 2017 and by pure coincidence, ended up as housemates for their high school experience. We hope this friendship that blossomed before The Grove will continue to grow throughout their lifetimes after The Grove!
