Inspiring Minds: Human Rights Lawyer Dr. Fiona Sampson P ’24 Speaks with Lakefield College School Law Class

Dr. Fiona Sampson P '24, a distinguished Human Rights Lawyer and Member of the Order of Canada, visited Ms. Hansler's Grade 12 Law class to share her insights and experiences in the field. Dr. Sampson's visit was marked by a discussion about the landscapes of Human Rights legislation and cases, spanning across Canada, Kenya, Ghana, and Malawi.

As Dr. Sampson shared her experiences, she made connections between the cases studied in Ms. Hansler’s class and her own work. Students saw the theoretical concepts they had explored come to life through real-world scenarios. This approach not only enhanced their understanding of the subject matter but also showcased the practical applications of the legal theories they were learning.

One of the highlights of Dr. Sampson's visit was her ability to provide a global perspective on Human Rights issues. By speaking about her work in different countries, she broadened our students' horizons, fostering a deeper appreciation for the cultural nuances that shape legal frameworks. This global outlook encourages students to approach their studies with a more comprehensive and nuanced understanding.

The session was not a one-sided lecture but an interactive exchange. Dr. Sampson welcomed questions, turning the class into a forum for open dialogue. This interactive approach not only encouraged participation but also allowed students to glean insights directly from a seasoned professional.

Thank you to Dr. Sampson for visiting our Law class and facilitating an immersive experience for our students. Her words have left an indelible mark on Ms. Hansler's Grade 12 Law class, providing them with invaluable insights that will undoubtedly shape their perspectives as they navigate the complexities of Human Rights in the years to come.
